A couple weeks ago, Mr. Handsome and I picked some blackberries, so I came up with a recipe and made a crisp. We took the finished product to our Bible study, and everyone loved it. We served it with vanilla ice cream….

Visiting the Window Cliffs
At the suggestion of one of our readers, Mr. Handsome and I visited Window Cliffs State Natural Area, located near Cummins Falls (about an hour east of Nashville). We were amazed to learn that the window cliffs were first sketched by French explorer Charles LeSuere in the 1830s. Before that time, the park was home to Native Americans….
How to Keep Flowers Fresh
Summer is the season of backyard BBQs and gatherings with family and friends. Fresh cut flowers make the perfect hostess gift–whether you pick them from your garden or purchase them from a grocery store or florist. But how do you keep your flowers from dying in the heat as you transport them? My mother taught me a simple trick that works wonders when your destination requires a bit of travel and you don’t want your flowers to wilt before they reach the arms of the hostess.
Just grab a few paper towels, and saturate them with water. Trim the stems slightly, and wrap the wet paper towels around them. If you are traveling especially far, add another few teaspoons of water to the bottom of the bag so the paper towels don’t dry out. Then, place a plastic baggie around the paper towels, and secure with a rubber band. Now you’re ready for the party!
Welcome, Summer Baby!
Many of you know that Mr. Handsome and I have a niece and a nephew. They are the children of one of Mr. Handsome’s sisters, who is due with her third (it’s a boy!) this fall. Another one of his sisters (he has four, but only two are married) is expecting a baby in the next few weeks. She didn’t find out the gender and is keeping her name ideas a secret, so we are all eager for the child to arrive.
A few weeks ago, we threw a baby shower for the sister who is pregnant with her first. The theme was “You Are My Sunshine,” since it will be a summer baby, and the mom-to-be loves the color yellow….
Cummins Falls, Nature’s Water Park
On our days off, Mr. Handsome and I enjoy spending time in the great outdoors. We love Tennessee because it is usually warm enough to be comfortable outside from March through November. When the hot weather hits, one of my favorite places to visit is Cummins Falls in Cookeville….
An Embarrassing Moment
A little while back, one of my readers asked me to share an embarrassing moment. The thing about embarrassing moments is that everyone has them, but they aren’t always easy to recall. I finally thought of one, so to kick off the weekend, Mr. Handsome and I made a video blog to tell the story:…
Our Anniversary: 3 Years of Marriage
Hope you’re having a wonderful week. These past 14 days have been extremely busy for us, and I apologize for the lack of blog posts. Mr. Handsome and I recently celebrated our three-year wedding anniversary. I don’t mean to sound cliche, but these three years have flown by. It truly does feel like only yesterday we were saying our vows and jetting off on our honeymoon….
On Top of the World
During our trip to the Big Island of Hawaii earlier this year, we drove to the summit of the world’s tallest mountain. Nope, I’m not talking about Everest. What most folks don’t know is that Mauna Kea, one of the Big Island’s volcanoes, is actually taller from base to summit than Everest. The catch is that the base of Mauna Kea is almost 20,000 feet (6096 meters) below the surface of the Pacific Ocean. The entire mountain is about 33,500 feet (10,210 meters) tall, while Mount Everest is approximately 29,035 feet (8849 meters).
