East Coast Christmas Wedding 1

January 8, 2017 by 20 Comments

As many of you know, my brother-in-law got married a few weeks ago. The wedding was a beautiful Christmas affair on the East Coast.I recently posted photos of the hairstyles that myself and two of the other bridesmaids wore, and you requested that I share more snapshots from the weekend. Here the are! More coming soon.

The first two are from the rehearsal dinner, and the second two were taken at the ceremony. The last picture shows the church when we first arrived. We put the poinsettias, altar, and two chairs in the back room because the wedding colors were green and gold (not red).

We didn’t need to add extra decorations to the stage because it was such a beautiful chapel on its own. After the ceremony, it took us less than 10 minutes to return the church to the way it was before the wedding.

Bridesmaid Pic

December 21, 2015 by 18 Comments

A few readers requested a picture of one of my bridesmaids wearing the gown we found for a bargain at Dress Barn. My oldest sister-in-law, Anne, gave me permission to share this photo of the two of us before the ceremony.

Aside from Mr. Handsome and me, our wedding party was made up of 15 people.

Anne–who was a close friend even before I met Mr. Handsome–was my matron of honor, and my 19-year-old sister-in-law was my maiden of honor. My six other attendants were my other two sisters-in-law (ages 12 and 14), my brother’s fiancée, and three childhood friends.

Mr. Handsome’s best man was one of his brothers, and his other six groomsmen were his other brother, my brother, Anne’s husband, and three friends. It was a blessing to have all of our siblings and siblings-in-law in the wedding party!

Dress Barn Bridesmaid Dresses

September 23, 2015 by 7 Comments

A few readers asked for a photo of the dresses my bridesmaids wore. I liked them so much that I bought one for myself! The dresses were on sale for $35 at Dress Barn, and the girls have been able to wear them for other occasions after our wedding.

The neckline is low, so we bought an extra dress and used
that material to sew a piece of fabric into each girl’s gown. We didn’t have time to add material to mine, so I just wear a tank top or camisole underneath.

DIY Wedding Reception

September 11, 2015 by 17 Comments

We were married at a local Baptist church, and our wedding reception was held in my inlaws’ backyard. They own a country property with several acres of land and plenty of shade trees. The red building in the pictures below is called the barn, although it is really just a glorified tool shed that is sometimes home to a few chickens. (The chickens all passed away over the winter, and my inlaws decided to wait until after the wedding to replace them.)

Due to rain, our initial plan to set up for the reception all day Friday didn’t work out. Rain was also in the forecast for Saturday, but thankfully we had the library banquet hall reserved as a backup location.

After the rehearsal dinner on Friday, we looked at the weather radar and decided to risk it and start setting up outside. A couple dozen friends and family members from out of town came over to the house, and within an hour, the backyard was transformed into a beautiful wedding venue.
On Saturday morning, while my bridesmaids and I were having our hair and makeup done, everyone else was back at the house adding last minute decorations. When Mr. Handsome and I walked into the backyard after the wedding ceremony, we were blown away. It was a scene right out of a magazine, and there was even a private dinner table set up for us in the tree house.
The weather was perfect, and our guests enjoyed themselves immensely.
The tables were decorated with mason jars sitting on slabs of wood that Mr. Handsome cut himself. As you can see, the large jars had hydrangeas in them. Each small jar had a batter-powered tea light sitting on white sugar. (Our initial plan was to use sand, but all the sand we found was dirt colored.)
