Our Smallest Baby

April 2, 2024 by 12 Comments

We are settling into life with three children and enjoying this stage. Our daughter (what do you think of the nickname Little Lady?) was our smallest baby. She was born at 39 weeks and weighed 7 lbs 5 oz.

Our first son, Little Buddy, arrived very close to his due date and weighed 8 lbs 12 oz. Our second son, Littlest Buddy, was 8 lbs 13 oz but was about a week and a half early. If he had been born on his due date, he could have easily been over 9 lbs. With that information in mind, I was nervous that our daughter would be even bigger.

My midwife told me that subsequent children are often bigger and that while girls tend to be smaller, that is not always the case. Thankfully, the ultrasound that I had the week before delivery showed Little Lady to be a very average size. The birth was easier as a result, even though her head was on the larger size (thank you, genetics!)

If you are a parent, how big were your children at birth?

My range from exactly 9 lbs to the youngest being our smallest (the second twin) 7 lbs 7 oz.
My twins are my only 7 pounders and they definitely feel smaller than my others who were over 8. They seem more frail and wear smaller clothes longer than my others which Iโ€™m not used to lol. They are almost 2 months old and wearing 0-3 months.
My second and fourth were not my biggest at birth but got super chunky fast ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜† my twins feel dainty compared to them lol.
    I love the nickname ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

My oldest was 7lbs 2oz and my youngest 7lbs 14oz. I think my mom said I was her smallest baby (I’m the 3rd) but I was also a month early.

    I have 8 children…9lbs. 2oz., 9lbs. 1oz., 9lbs. 8oz., 10lbs. 8oz., 9lbs., 11lbs., 10lbs. 14oz. and 7lbs. 13oz.
I was induced at 39 weeks with the last one. It was a much easier delivery and recovery!

My first child, a son was 5lbs 9oz and a total surprise at 36 weeks exactly.

My second born, a daughter was 7lbs at 38 weeks.

I like little lady as a pseudonym. I find little buddy and littlest buddy a bit clunky and hard to differentiate if Iโ€™m honest. I think they are a bit too similar.

    Love Little Lady!!
My daughter was 6 lb 15 oz.
My son was 7 lb 12 oz which is an average newborn weight, but he’s now 4 and he’s well over the 99% for height. He has always looked about 1-2 years older than he is bc he’s so big. I would have thought such a big child would have been huge at birth, but he wasn’t, thankfully!

My oldest daughter weighed 3lbs 7oz..born by emergency C Section at 32 weeks due to Placenta Previa. Younger daughter weighed 7 lb 14 oz born about a week early.. I had a VBAC with her…..2 totally different experiences but thank the Lord both are perfect and healthy young women now! Oldest grandson born at 28 weeks due to oldest daughter having severe Preeclampsia and he weighed 2 lbs 7 oz… Thank the Lord he is a perfect and healthy almost 10 year old now!
Baby grandson was born right at 40 weeks and weighed 8 lbs 4 oz and will soon be 3 years old! I have wondered if premature births are possibly hereditary.. I was also a premie baby and was born 6 weeks early?
