What’s your favorite frozen coffee beverage? Is it the Starbucks Frappuccino? The McCafe Frappe? The Dunkin Donuts Frozen Dunkaccino? What if I told you that you could make a homemade frozen coffee beverage for a fraction of the cost…and a fraction of the calories? Check out my YouTube recipe tutorial!

Cafe Mocha Smoothie

Course Drinks
Prep Time 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 6 coffee ice cubes black coffee frozen in ice cube molds
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp instant coffee
  • 1/2 large frozen banana
  • 1 Tbsp chocolate drink powder or 1 tsp chocolate syrup

Instructions

  1. Place ice cubes, milk, instant coffee, and chocolate drink powder/syrup in the blender, and blend until ice is crushed.

  2. Cut frozen banana into 3 pieces, and add to the blender.

  3. Blend until thick and creamy.

Recipe Notes

*Feel free to adjust the amounts of coffee powder and chocolate flavoring according to personal preference. If you're not a chocolate lover, you can substitute for a splash of vanilla syrup.

How much can you taste the banana in this? I generally don't like bananas but this recipe looks so good.

I don't think the taste is too strong, but my husband does. I've actually made it for him without banana (you will need a few extra ice cubes, either coffee or regular) and it has turned out well.

Hey, I don't like bananas either but find them alright in smoothies as long as the taste isn't too strong. If I make a smoothie or other drink with banana I cut it down so you can't taste it as much. (I might do 1/4 instead of 1/2). πŸ™‚

I love iced coffee and have made my own a few times. This looks good. Look forward to tring it out! πŸ™‚

To the anon, banana often makes a really good base in smoothies, making it creamier. If it's a greener banana, you won't be able to taste it as much as a really ripe, sweet banana.

Thanks for the tip. I've been using riper bananas, so I'll have to try greener ones. Maybe my hubby won't be able to taste them that way. LOL

You could also try chocolate almond milk to make it a little more healthy then chocolate syrup…or just cocoa powder!

      Hi Justine,

The two big ones are old pickle jars that my mom has had for years and gave to me as a wedding present. The slightly smaller one is just a Mason jar from the store. I'm not sure I understand your question. What lid are you referring to?

You said that it was a pickle jars, the lids that are on top of the class jars, would smell like dill, how did you guys get that smell out of the screw lids on top of the jars. Thanks!! You lucky to have them, now everything is in plastic, I HATE plastic, and you can't find them anywhere!!!!!!! I never wrote to you, but I wanted to say I loved your wedding, and I love that you are an environmentalist!!!!! ME TOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Oops, I missed that comment. πŸ™‚

Those jars definitely do come in handy. They are about 30 years old, so my mom doesn't remember how she initially got the smell out. I would think that a few dishwasher cycles, plus perhaps letting them sit in the sun, would do the trick.

I'm blessed to have you as a reader.

"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?" Coffee doesn't cause cancer. Quite the opposite.

Actually, coffee prevents cancer because of the antioxidants. Multiple recent studies have shown that drinking coffee improves health. The darker the roast, the better it is for you (and the less caffeine it contains).

It was a good video until the gross chocolate spoon lick and dip into the smoothie at the end. Wouldn't it be nicer to serve it in a more presentable way?

Some people can't eat other prepared food for fear that goes on during the preparations. I'd rather not see it.
