Valentine’s Trip to Chattanooga

February 15, 2016 by 36 Comments

As a combined Christmas and Valentine’s gift, my husband surprised me with a trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee. We headed down on Saturday morning and spent the rest of the weekend touring the area. Upon arriving, we drove to the top of Lookout Mountain. Instead of paying $20 each for admission to Rock City, we found our own scenic overlook and snapped a photo.

We were told that we absolutely had to visit Ruby Falls, so we did pay for that attraction. It was definitely the highlight of our trip. The tour began with an elevator ride 260 feet into the heart of Lookout Mountain.

After we exited the elevator into the cavern, our guide took us on a
1/2-mile walk to a 145-foot waterfall, located 1,120 feet underground. It was spectacular!

Have you been to Ruby Falls? If not, I highly recommend it.

I know someone who was on a cave tour once when a strong earthquake hit. They lost power in the cave – pitch black – loose rocks falling. They were lucky to get out unharmed (no elevator at that one, only stairs).

Yikes! What cave was it? This cave is located on a fault line, but we were told that it's an inactive fault line, so no possibilities of an earthquake.

Don't worry – it was not a cave in this country. It was in Southeast Asia. But Oklahoma has been having more quakes and shakes than California, so look out Midwest!

Thank you, Johnna! We went to Niagara Falls when I was very young, so I don't remember much. I hope to take a trip there with my husband someday!

Nope, never been to the Bahamas, but I hear it's lovely. Niagara Falls is on the border of New York, USA, and Ontario, Canada.

I went to the Bahamas when I was 13. I got sick the day before we were to leave end up in the Miami Hospital for a week. It sucked.

Chattanooga is a fun city. I've been to Rock City, Ruby Falls, and Lookout Mountain and enjoyed all three of them a lot. The Tennessee Aquarium and IMAX Theater are awesome as well.

We also went to the aquarium and really enjoyed it. We stopped by the IMAX, but the tickets were all sold out. πŸ™ I guess we have a reason to go back.

      Hi there,

I wouldn't recommend stopping by unannounced, as that could be seen as an invasion of their privacy. You are welcome to contact them at info@thebatesfamily.com.

They have also chosen to share information about the church they attend, and they welcome visitors: http://www.batesfamilyblog.com/2015/10/visit-bates-at-church.html

      Hope this helps. πŸ™‚
