Ever since we announced our pregnancy, our blog readers (and our family and friends) have been eager to find out the gender of our baby. We didn’t do a gender reveal party, but we did have a small gathering with a few family members. It’s a bit of a funny story that I’ll share later this week. Until then, the secret is inside this decadent chocolate cake! Will our new addition be a he or a she? Watch the video below to find out.
I love the name Asa, itβs Hebrew for physician or healer. Congrats on your baby boy!
I like Asa too π
Thank you! And thanks for the suggestion.
You should name it either.
1. John James
2. Edward Alexander
3. Kyle James
4. Name it after your husband
Thanks for the suggestions, Miley!
Ellie
Your welcome Ellie!
I am so happy for you guys. I am thinking it is a boy but I am also going with a girl but I am sticking with a boy. Because it might be blue frosting in the middle of the cake. I did not watch the video yet but I will watch wants I am done.
Thanks, Makayla. Your guess is correct. π
Ellie
So happy for you I hope you have fun with the little one I have 3 sisters and 1 brother up in Montana that I never see. Please have fun with this little guy wondering what you will name him.
Congrats on the little boy! They are amazing (I’m a little bias cause i have a son). For names I went with family names, and don’t over look old fashion names. Anthony Louis (my boys name) is consider old fashion but it means alot to me. You will know the right name when you hear it.
Thank you! That’s a very nice name. Do you call him Tony?
Ellie
I do not call him Tony but family members do. Only reason why is cause I named him after my grandfather’s and I want to keep their memory alive.
Congratulations! All the best for all of you. We have two boys- Philip Alexander and Henry Anthony π
Thank you, Alice! π
Hi Ellie. I’m so happy for you both. I have two boys and it was fun getting into trucks and boy things as they grew up. I suggest their names for you – James and Samuel. Whatever you decide will be perfect for you and Mr. H. Lynn
Thank you for the suggestions, Lynn! Those are very nice names. I’m looking forward to everything that goes along with raising a boy. π
Ellie
I have ad blocker and i can not turn it off. there for we can not watch the video. please tell us the gender in the comments Thank you LK
It’s a boy. π
Congrats on your little boy. Boys are great fun but lots of energy. I’m terrible with coming up with names.
Thank you!
Congratulations, how exciting!!
Thanks, Alicia!
I love your vlogs! π Congratulations on a boy! How exciting!
I’m glad to hear that, Hollie. Thank you!
I like these names:
Aidan
Daniel
Elliot
Adrian
Alex
Asier
Thank you for the suggestions!
Boys are so much fun! Name idea: Hayden
Thanks, Meg! I know a Hayden. Very nice name.
I like Caleb James. Of course, my daughter’s middle name is James, so I’m partial to it. Although if you went with Caleb James, you could call him CJ. I also like the names Timothy, Alan, and Brian. My seven year old daughter suggested Kentucky and Tennessee. π Congratulations!
Thank you! Those are great suggestions. And your daughter’s suggestions are very sweet. Do you live in Kentucky?
Ellie
We used to live in Kentucky, when my husband was stationed at Fort Campbell. Now we’re in Hawaii, but we would love to be at Fort Campbell again.
I know exactly where Fort Campbell is. Hawaii must be lovely though. Are you on Oahu?
Yes, we are on Oahu.
How fun! I spent one day there many years ago. All I remember is a short trip to Pearl Harbor and swimming at the beach (Waikiki I think) in our clothes because we didn’t have bathing suits. Good times.
Thank you for sharing, that is very interesting and nice too know. I thought you were having a girl. For a name I thought Elijah as I was watching your video. Maybe there is a connection to Ellie, Mr H. in that name. I’m wishing the mom and the dad a healthy rest of the pregnancy, as you two to take care of each other and together care for and nurture your little one.
Elijah is a great name. Thank you for your well wishes!
Ellie
Congrats!!! So happy for you both. I like the name Hudson. I have 2 boys but and they are SO fun. I also like the name Joshua James.
Thank you, Lynn! I really like Hudson, as well.
Ellie
Toward the end Mr Handsome is just looking at the camera soberly and Ellie is saying a lot and Mr Handsome is just maintaining a straight face and it is like Ellie is pushing for a reaction from him, and she gets hardly much of anything, “just sit on the couch and watch netflix”, ha ha it seems like Ellie was really going for a reaction from him!
LOL!
Congratulations! Names are so difficult! We went with names that meant a lot to us, after my aunt and his mom, I agree the trendy names are not good, that’s how you end up with 3 kids with the same name in one class π Good luck with the name, whatever you pick will be perfect I am sure!
Thank you, Jess. We also hope to incorporate some family names. π
Ellie
Congrats! My guess was a boy because of how sick you said you were. Maybe it is because I just recently had a boy and was so sick with him. We waited till after he was born to choose his name. We had not done that with our 2 girls, so something different. Highly suggestion you have it narrowed down to a few though. I like the names Hudson and Levi
Thank you! I agree, we will definitely narrow it down before the birth. Another reader suggested Hudson–I love it.
Ellie
My son’s name is Hudson π We call him Hud sometimes for short and he is named after Hudson Taylor, the early missionary to China, who actually taught my husband’s family about Christ!
How neat! I love the story behind his name.
You guys are so funny! Congrats on the baby! I would suggest going through some books like you mentioned in order to choose a name, some people wait for the baby to be born in order to see if the name fits them or not.
Thanks, Lucy!
Congratulations! My oldest is a boy as well, it is wonderful to see how he is already filling out a leadership roll at only 6 with his sisters. We have chosen all strong leaders from the Bible to name our kids after, it gives them someone to look up to.
Thank you! Looking forward to seeing our son lead his siblings.
Congratulations, I’m very happy for you!
Maybe a Biblical name? Nathaniel, Ezra, Jeremiah, Jacob, Isaac etc.
Thank you! Those are great suggestions.
I love the name Josiah James!! So happy for you guys!! ππ
Thanks, Deana! I like Josiah, as well.
So excited for you! The name of our boy is Joas. A biblical, Hebrew name wich means βa gift from Godβ .
Have fun picking out a name! Enjoy the process!
Love, Mieke
Hadn’t thought of Joas. Thanks for the suggestion!
Congratulations on your baby boy! Continued prayers for the rest of your pregnancy and delivery. Picking names can be difficult.but fun also! Pick a name that is meaningful to you both. Sometimes people wait until they see the baby before making a final decision on the name. Donβt feel pressured. ~C
Thank you! π
A little boy is such a blessing! And I love the idea of a blog post or a poll dedicated to name suggestions, you may get a few really great ideas.
I like the name Ezekiel (call him Zeke).
Thanks for the suggestion, Judy! π
Yay congrats Ellie and Mr. Handsome! Our first was a boy too π I always liked the name Everett π
Thank you, Julianna! Everett is a nice, strong name.
Thanks for the reveal! How exciting! I was guessing girl as it wouldβve been cute to see Ellie and Mr H holding a little girl. Esp Mr H. :)) But a boy will be interesting. Iβve always liked the names-Dallas, Silas, and Ross. (Oh my just realized they all end in s!) but anyway, my nephew is named Riley-another suggestion. On another note, the setting you was in on the video looked wonderfully lovely! On a deck shaded by all those trees. Loved it! Made me wonder if this was at your house. And oh my you had to show us that moist, decadent, chocolatey cake. I just wanted to take (more like-grab! Lol) that plate from you! Anyway, have fun choosing a name!
Thank you, Candi. I agree, seeing Mr. Handsome with a girl one day will be very cute. His 2-week-old niece came to visit a while ago, and I loved watching him interact with her. Yep, the video was taken at our house. π
Congrats on the boy! SPD sucks but regular chiropractor and acupuncture really helped with the pain for me….also made my labour the easiest ever!
Thank you! π
I have a couple good names from the Bible that are pretty neat, I’m Mr. handsome will love them! π
1. Mahershalalhashbaz
2. Zedekiah.
3. Loammi
Very unique. Might be a little to “strong”… Haha
Ahh I’m so happy for you guys. I love the names, silas, Jacob and Caleb.
Thanks for the suggestions!
Try Joseph π
Thanks, Alexis. Several readers have suggested that. It’s a popular choice. π
Congratulations on your soon to be arriving little guy. I like the names, Nicholas, and call him Nick, I think Shane is a nice strong name, then there is Matthew and call him Matt, then there is Sage which is nice too. Ok will stop there for now. Lol
Thank you! I’ll take note of your suggestions. π
Congratulations you two! Well I do like the name Asa. Some boy names I like:
Micah
Caden
Cameron
Isaac
Caleb
Thank you, Regina! And thanks for the suggestions. Those are all very strong names. π
Congratulations! Can’t wait to hear what name you pick for your baby boy π Jane
Ethan, Nicholas, Kurt
(Boys could share the same middle name as Mr. Handsome and girls could share your middle name)
Great suggestions!
How exciting for you two! Thanks for sharing your special announcement with us.
It really depends on how the first flows with the last name. Also make sure that the full name doesn’t lead to any embarrassing acronyms.
I love the name Theodore though it may come across as old fashioned. Also, I’ve been drawn to Benjamin, Matthew, and Jacob.
Whatever his name is, he’ll be blessed to have you two as parents.
Thank you, Margie. That’s very kind. I agree about avoiding embarrassing acronyms. Poor kid would have to live with it his whole life…
Ha! My poor fathers initials are PMS!
Oh that is unfortunate! Poor guy!
Thanks for the good laugh anonπ poor guy alright! You know guys get a period-an emotional/whatever you wanna call it period different times in their lives? Iβve heard of it and by what I see itβs true. So wonder if they get PMS too? Lol π
LOL. That hilarious, mine are BED after I got married and funny thing is I do love a good nap. LOL
Zephaniah, Courage, Wisdom, or Texas.
Thanks for the suggestions!
Gender is whatever you want to identify as. All you found out was anatomy.
We’ll have to agree to disagree on that. π
Ellie
Congratulations, how exciting!
I don’t have any children, but I’ve always loved the name Joseph for a boy. That was my grandfather’s name (although his was spelled Josef, as he was from in Austria). If you aren’t familiar with it already, there is a website called Behind the Name, which has pretty much every name from around the world and the meaning/origin of it listed there. You can search for names that have a particular meaning, or see how popular/common certain names are. Maybe that would be helpful in your search for a name. Good luck to you both!
Thank you, Lisa! Joseph is a very nice name. A few blog readers have suggested it. Thanks for mentioning the website. We definitely will want to figure out the meaning and origin of a name before we choose it.
Ellie
Congratulations! I was wondering what you were having. We just found out we are having another boy as well. So we have one girl and five boys. For our gender reveal, I made cupcakes and put homemade whipped cream inside of the color and my children really enjoyed that.
Boys are full of energy and seem to rarely sit still. What an awesome responsibility raising the next generation of young men for God. It’s not an easy task, trust me, but it’s a wonderful adventure.
I hope you are feeling better now and enjoying this stage of pregnancy.
Congratulations to you, as well, Jessica! Sounds like you’re an expert at raising boys by now. I’m looking forward to it. π
Oh, and my oldest boy is 6 so I still have alot to learn about boys. π
That’s fun that they are so close in age. I’m sure they love spending time together. Is your daughter the oldest?
Yes my daughter is the oldest. Which is good since she’s the only girl. She’s 8. Her and the oldest boy are 14 months apart. He is almost 7. They are all really close, which I love but it can be hard at times, they are all less than two years apart.
That’s similar to my husband’s family. Five of them are very close in age, which was difficult for my mother-in-law when they were all little, but now they are good friends and glad to have each other. I don’t think I’m up for that, though. You must be a saint. π
Congratulations on your baby boy!I have a son that’s all grown up but it was fun to buy toy trucks, cars building blocks etc.God bless you both.
All children should play with building blocks. It helps to develop hand/eye coordination.
Thank you, Stacey!
Congrats Ellie! Have you had any effects from βpregnancy brainβ? I know not all women experience this but it would be a fun post!
Congratulations on having a boy! Thanks for sharing. π
Thank you, Zania!
Congrats Ellie!! I was completely convinced you were having a girl π I just got a positive pregnancy result myself so Iβm also expecing π babies are blessings and canβt wait to see what you name him!
Thank you, Ellyn! That’s so exciting. Is this your first?
Ellie
Itβs our second π I also have a 2 year old daughter.
Yay!! Congratulations Ellie!! Though I’m sure whether boy or girl you would have been equally overjoyed!!
If we have a boy, we like both Tobias “Toby” or Kolbe with a middle name of Joseph. Nathaniel is also nice! I’m sure the perfect name will come to your mind! God bless!
Thank you, Melinda! Yes, we definitely would have been. There’s just something about finding out the gender that makes everything seem more real. Thanks for the name suggestions. π
Ellie
Congratulations on having a boy. Joseph is a perfect name.
Joan, Marion and Marilyn
Thanks for the suggestion, ladies. Joseph is a nice name.
You have a lot of names to pick from. Love the name Andrew, Max, and Jack.
I know, there are SO many options! I need to get a baby name book.
Congratulations! We liked the name Avery if we had a boy. Also like Asher. Maybe Mr. Handsome’s middle name? Anyway it is fun to figure out and I know you two will figure out a perfect name for your sweet boy.
Thanks, Alayna. And thank you for the name suggestions. π
We have 4 boys as a blended family..we wouldnβt trade our boys for anything π…
Craig Michael
Jordan Kyle
Ryan Andrew
Benjamin Charles
The two youngest are named after a favorite uncle and a grandfather AND a grandfather and great- grandfather
You will find the right name in your π. Ryan Andrew was Brendan Alexander until 2 days before he was born..I changed my mindπ. Enjoy the pregnancy and the miracle of His blessing.
What great names…very strong!
Congrats! I love the name John. He was the youngest of Christ’s apostles… and a beautiful role modle for every child growing up.
Thanks! And thank you for the name suggestion.
Have you checked out nymbler.com yet? It suggests names similar in style to names you suggest. It’s helpful and fun. The social security administration publishes a “beyond the top 1000” list that includes all names given to at least 5 babies if you’re really hurting for ideas or if popularity of a name is important to you.
Have heard of either of those. Thanks for sharing, Leah!
Congrats on your little son! So excited for you! I’ve always liked Tyler and Jason for boys names. If you wanted you could always look at the Bible for names: Joshua, Jacob, David, Noah, Adam, Moses, Aaron, Nathaniel, Joseph, Luke, James, John, and so on.
Thank you, Sarah. Those are all good name suggestions. π
Ellie
I named my son Ryan Matthew and apparently the pain medication that they gave me because I ripped and had to get stitches caused me to forget what his name would be and I proceeded to tell everyone that I named him Matthew Mark Luke. So I forgot my babies name but did remember the books of the New Testament. Lol. But the medication wore off and I corrected his name I was telling people.
LOL. Pain medication can do crazy things.
I have two boys, Israel and Elijah. Each child we’ve been blessed with, we’ve always prayed about the name and asked the Lord to show us what it should be. Xx
Two great names! Haven’t thought to pray about the name, but we certainly should be doing that.
I don’t have any particular name suggestions, but if you are having trouble choosing between a few, yell it out the back door like you are calling him in for dinner. Somehow hearing it louder and prouder helps to cement a name or take it off a list! π Congrats and best wishes!!
Haha, that’s a good idea!
We always look for names starting with H – my daughters Hannah and Helen are the fifth generation in our family starting with H.
So I suggest
Harold
Hugo
Henry
Holden
Huey
Kind regards,
Hella
Thanks for the suggestions, Hella. So everyone in the past 5 generations has an H name? How cool!
Yes, many H-names from my great-grandfather Heinrich over my grandfather Helmut and my father Holger (and his brothers Helmut and Harald) to me, Hella (and my sisters Helge and Henriette), and my daughters Hannah and Helen and my nephew Hugo. π
My oldest son’s name is Ethan-when you went through your requirements for a name, I immediately checked off all those characteristics in my head. π
I do like the name Ethan! π
I’m so excited you are having a boy! I have two boys as well. Boys are so much fun, very active, and very lovable. My boys are 1 1/2 years apart and are great friends most of the time. Boys are easier to handle as they get older, mine are 11 and 13. We named our oldest son Harrison (I don’t think anyone else suggested it yet), and our youngest is Ryan. Good luck through the rest of your pregnancy and prayers for a safe delivery!
Thank you, Doreen! We’re excited to meet our son. π
Congratulations, Ellie! Boys are so much fun π We have three girls and a boy. I love going to Nameberry.com to look at name options. Our son’s name is Malachi and yes, people periodically mispronounce it lol!
Some other names that come to mind are: Thane, Kade, Justus, Ezra, Knox, Silas and Cyrus. You’ll know the right one when you hear it. It just “clicks”!
Many Blessings!
~Amanda
Thank you, Amanda! We have friends who recently named their son Malachi. I’ll have to check out Nameberry. There’s an app called Baby Names that I have been looking at as well.
