My Hubby the Painter

January 25, 2016 by 48 Comments

As I mentioned in my last post, every single one of his dental patients canceled their appointments on Friday and Saturday because of snow. Most of the roads weren’t plowed, so aside from church on Sunday and a few walks through our neighborhood, we relaxed at home all weekend. It was glorious. And now we have two beautiful new paintings, courtesy of Mr. Handsome. (Click here to see a picture of his first painting from back in December.) My husband is becoming quite the artist. Seeing his face light up when he finishes a painting makes me so happy! Not only does his new hobby act as a stress reliever, but it also gives us meaningful decor to hang in our home.

What do you think?

I like the pictures! Do they say something about his mood? The first one I suggest says vulnerability to isolation and the second one suggests nature's natural beauty also has a tempestuous side.

I hadn't thought about that, but you could be right, although he usually asks me for input when deciding what to paint. 🙂

Thanks! Maybe we will start entering them into art competitions. He hasn't tried to paint me yet. The technique he uses (called wet-on-wet) isn't the best for painting people, but I'm hoping he will learn how soon. 🙂

Average or below for a ''hobby artist''. I have a bachelors in art and education. My 10th graders create similar work…

Do you know that art is one of the activities all people are encouraged to do so the brain relaxes while they have a positive focus utilizing creative parts of their brain. Or in other words activities are done for good mental health. Your comment seems somewhat discouraging! More power to anyone who does arts and crafts and if necessary to help them get them some ear plugs and socks to manage the shooting gallery with!

He's not an artist, nor a painter. He hasn't had formal education, correct? I worked hard for my art degree!

He took a painting class as a young child but hasn't done any painting (or taken any other painting classes) since then. I'm sure your art degree has helped you become a wonderful artist.

In a short talk I heard about maintaining good mental health doing arts and crafts was advised as a way for the brain to relax just as you suggested here Ellie. Degrees are definitely not an issue, any arts and crafts one wants to do qualify. That Mr Handsome is doing good pictures is a bonus result but if he gets too good and it becomes a serious cottage industry for him; then, he may have to bounce a ball against the side of your house to relax and that will drive you nuts when you are inside trying to think what to write.

I am starting to realize there are always those people who think everyone has to get a degree in anything before they should do it. I do not agree with that thinking.

What's wrong with someone finding enjoyment in painting even without an art degree?
What I take from this post is that he likes this hobby very much, and Ellie likes to see him happy and likes to have two nice paintings to hang.
What's wrong with people enjoying the small good things in life?
I think that to be offended because Ellie called her husband a painter is so overboard… I mean, she's just proud of her husband, which is a cute thing to see, and, also, as someone who does it for a hobby he's pretty good.

Both paintings are beautiful, but I like the painting of the cabin in the woods the best. If you don't have a place for it you can give it to me. Ha! Ha! God Bless & Take Care
