How to Grill Perfect Burgers

April 21, 2017 by 51 Comments

Mr. Handsome is the grill master at our house. We have a very small grill that sits on our little outdoor table and uses camping-sized propane tanks, but it gets the job done (quite well, actually). Mr. Handsome has seen me film cooking videos for the blog and wanted in on the fun, so he created a grilling how-to video for you all, complete with some of his amusing, dry humor. Learn how to grill the perfect burger (and make Texas toast and green beans). Enjoy!

I think pets get bored. The Handsomes are probably high on the adgenda for entertainment, that this cat has. "Oh, goody, the Handsomes are out in their back yard, and there is food!"

When I first saw it I thought he was serious and he didn't really like the burger. I was mortified for a second 🀣

Salt, salt, salt…..oh to be young and not worry about how much salt, but that really was a lot of salt in everything. Lots of white bread starchy carbs, too.

Try not working the meat so much. It makes the burgers less tender. It's not Playdough.

Also, be careful of cross-contamination. A spatula that may have touched a raw hamburger should not then be used to flip bread or buns.

And I can't even begin to guess what "leftovers" you fed that cat. It looked red??? How about keeping a bag of dry cat food or cat treats on hand and keeping the human food for humans? There are some things you should never feed a cat, and if you've never owned one, you might not be familiar with that list.

Yes, what dropped from that spoon to the cement? Poor kitty. Sounds like he/she doesn't have the best of owners, if he/she wanders and mooches. Doesn't your town have leash ordinances for dogs AND cats? Or at least rules about animals not being allowed to leave the owners' properties? Wandering cats can get into all sorts of life-threatening predicaments and often don't live as long as indoor cats.

Mr. Handsome was feeding the cat jambalaya (fish, sausage, and rice based). We actually have 5 cats that run around our neighborhood. I have talked to friends who live in other neighborhoods nearby, and they also see lots of cats wondering around. I'm sure that some are strays, and some have homes. It brightens my day to see their cute little faces at our back door. πŸ™‚

A spatula that touch a raw hamburger won't hurt you. It's ok to flip bread with it.

If any of their neighbors have allergies, asthma, COPD, or any type of lung problems, I hope they don't use that as a fire pit. It's horrible when you have lung problems and your neighbors insist on filling the air with wood smoke! There's no getting away from it if you can't tolerate smoke. I know, because I suffer every winter with wood stoves and fireplaces going anywhere near my house, or whenever my inconsiderate neighbors think they need to burn wood in a fire pit in the summer. No amount of masks, air purifiers, and inhaled medications can match the smoke they produce. How anyone can sit around and watch wood burn while totally polluting the air for everyone else is beyond me. There ought to be a law.

The people in the town I live in are allowed to burn their garbage in metal barrels in their yards. It stinks awfully!

To the first commenter: Yep, we have a small fire pit. We love sitting around it when the weather is nice, cooking hotdogs and s'mores.

To the second commenter: We only build small fires, and none of our neighbors have complained about the smoke. Before installing it, we obtained permission from our landlord and the city.

The backroung area could be plowed up and turned into a vegetable garden, including green beans.

Don't they rent the house? Not sure a landlord would want a plowed yard. But if asked, the owners might agree to a small plot or raised bed. It's almost too late now to start a garden from scratch, though. Pots with potting soil are the way to go. Believe it or not, I've grown beans in planters & pots.

Oh how I would love to turn our backyard into a big garden! Unfortunately, our lease doesn't allow that. Lol. I'll just have to settle for another 5-gallon bucket garden, as I had last year. I panted peppers and tomatoes again this year, but I hope to try beans when we have more space.

To the person asking about my husband's hands, you are very perceptive! He doesn't do anything to them, but somehow he doesn't ever have hangnails or dry cuticles (even though he washes them many times a day for his job). It's definitely not fair, LOL.

Some commenters are so cute, like the one that said "oh goody, the handsomes are out in their backyard" that was adorable and made me laugh, and yet some commenters think they have right to tell others how to live their lives and/or make assumptions about others that they never met and know very little about, and that is very rude. Stick to living your own life and don't assume you know anything about another person whom you've never even met. You know what they say about the word assume, if you break up the word it tells you what happens if you assume.

That black and white kitty is absolutely beautiful. I'd try to keep him if I was you! But then I just love black and white cats! I also liked your favorite one too but when I saw the black one I just gasped. I'd feed them leftovers and whatnot also. Don't worry about the mean commenters. Shows they don't have enough to do-very bored with life!

I like that cat, as well. There's also a black one with white on its chest that is well-tempered. And an all-black one that picks on the other cats and is quite mean looking. He tried to bit my leg the other day, so he's currently my least favorite. LOL.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm blessed to have you as a reader. πŸ™‚
