Incredible LEGO Sculptures at Cheekwood

June 29, 2021 by 18 Comments

As a reader of our blog, you have probably heard us mention Cheekwood before. It’s an outdoor garden in Nashville, complete with a historic mansion built by the family who previously owned the estate. We have been to Cheekwood to see Christmas lights, the Chihuly exhibit, and the tulip festival.

This month, we took Little Buddy to Cheekwood for the Nature POP! exhibition. Sean Kenney, LEGO sculpture extraordinaire, scattered a few dozen of his works across the grounds for guests to find. He used more than 800,000 LEGOs to build his creations.

We thoroughly enjoyed wandering through the gardens and marveling at all the beautiful sculptures. The dog is made up of 39,800 bricks and took the artist 155 hours to build.

The woodpecker is made of 32,650 bricks and took 124 hours to build.

I found the lion to be the most impressive because it’s all one color, but yet the artist was able to create incredible definition in the face. It consists of 45,150 bricks and took 167 hours to build.

The mama and baby polar bears were also pretty incredible. They are made of a whopping 112,450 bricks and took Kenney 389 hours to construct.

Although it appears small, the dragonfly is made of 66,655 bricks and took 502 hours to build.

We also saw gardeners, a mother and baby duck, and a bunch of fluffle of colored rabbits.

Which LEGO sculpture is your favorite?

That is so cool! The lion is incredible, but I really like the polar bears. Such a neat idea with the colors! I love the different stripes of blue.. reminds me of the ocean or layers of ice in an arctic sea.

Oh my gosh, those are so cool! My kids loved Legos when they were younger and would have loved seeing an exhibit like that! It would be hard to choose a favorite because they are all so unique but I do see what you mean about the lion’s face even though it’s all one color. They are all amazing! So fun you got to go.

That lion is fantastic! There’s so much detail in it, and somehow it manages to look ferocious.

These are amazing. The sculptor is talented. The amount of thought, planning, math!,and patience and work. My favourite is the gardener one. I like the movement, fluidity, and spaces within the pice that creates a vignette.

I love the polar bears, they could just jump into the sea and disappear.

Thank you once again for great pictures. I would have to agree that the lion is the most amazing. Wow! My second favorite is the gentleman with the dog. It bears an incredible resemblance to Mr Handsome šŸ˜

This is so amazing! I like the gardeners the best but they are all stunning. My brothers played with Legos and I did off and on too. They aren’t real easy to build anything of substantial size with so this was really a lot of hard work that this artist put in to make these sculptures. It is really incredible what he did.

This is so awesome. I like the bunny on. And the gardner with a little boy. That one reminds be of Mr.Handsome gardening with buddy when buddy gets older.

My nephew love doing Lego’s that for Christmas one year I gave him Lego’s he had it built by the time I left christmas day at 3 in the afternoon.
