Impressionism and a Cow Painting

October 22, 2018 by 33 Comments

cow painting

While we were in Boston, we visited the Museum of Fine Arts so Mr. Handsome could gain some inspiration for his artwork. As a hobby, he enjoys painting in oil and acrylic and has had his masterpieces displayed in quite a few art shows and venues across Nashville.

This summer, he started painting cows, and the one above is my favorite so far. We have it hanging in our kitchen, which Mr. Handsome’s brother dislikes because when he sits on our couch, he feels like it’s staring at him. I think it’s a cute cow, but it really creeps my brother-in-law out for some reason.

The museum has a huge collection of classics, including an entire room of works by Claude Monet, which inspired Mr. Handsome to try his hand at impressionism. This was his first attempt, and I think it turned out great. I especially love the vibrant colors.

He got the frazzled look of a cow pretty good when itโ€™s looking at you. We have herds of cows nearby where we live and if you get up close to em they have this petrified/frazzled look out of their bulging eyes ๐Ÿ‘€. I donโ€™t how to explain it but I was amazed Mr H got that look in itโ€™s eye. But I want to say I just LOVE the fall painting!! Iโ€™m not into impressionisms but for some reason this one is so good that I wish he could sell some of his paintings like this one!

I love both paintings! His cow painting is super. Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I am not that familiar with Impressionism painting but I love the colors and his take on it. Great work. ~C

I didn’t know they were popular. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Tough masterfully done (if this word exists – english isn’t my first language), I can’t help but think “but, why?” ;p

          Hi Laura,

He hasnโ€™t painted many people, but he has done a few. Heโ€™s done just about everything else though (landscapes, animals, cityscapes, ships, musical instruments). Your English is very good! What is your native language?

My native language is Italian! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Is Mr Handsome painting something for your (future?) nursery?
I was also wondering if, when your baby is born, you’re going to share the same, or photos of him. I know that a lot of people are very protective, but, still, sharing your life on the blog is kind of your job, right? ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Laura. I would love to learn Italian. I am planning to decorate the nursery with Mr. Handsome’s paintings, maybe either animals or ships at sea. We hope to share photos when our baby is born. ๐Ÿ™‚

Nice! It’s going to be so meaningful to have his room decorated with his dad’s artwork. ๐Ÿ™‚
It’s always interesting to learn new languages! If you want I can “get you started” by correcting a few mistakes/differences that are commonly made internationally when talking about italian food. ๐Ÿ™‚

For example: it’s not “spaghetti bolognese”, it’s “spaghetti alla bolognese”.
It’s not “zucchini”, it’s “zucchine”. The word “zucchini is used in most foreign countries instead of “zucchine”, which is an italian word.
I thought it would be fun!

Thanks for sharing those common language mistakes, Laura! I had no idea that zucchini is actually zucchine.
