Impressionism and a Cow Painting

October 22, 2018 by 33 Comments

cow painting

While we were in Boston, we visited the Museum of Fine Arts so Mr. Handsome could gain some inspiration for his artwork. As a hobby, he enjoys painting in oil and acrylic and has had his masterpieces displayed in quite a few art shows and venues across Nashville.

This summer, he started painting cows, and the one above is my favorite so far. We have it hanging in our kitchen, which Mr. Handsome’s brother dislikes because when he sits on our couch, he feels like it’s staring at him. I think it’s a cute cow, but it really creeps my brother-in-law out for some reason….

Painting with Mae and Lena

February 20, 2017 by 37 Comments

Mr. Handsome is the oldest of seven children. He and three of his siblings are finished with school and well into their careers, but the three younger girls are still working through their education. The two youngest, Mae and Lena, are in high school. As many of you know, Mr. Handsome is a hobbyist painter. (We are hoping to start selling his masterpieces soon, so stay tuned for more information on that.) For Christmas, my mother-in-law decided she wanted to buy Bob Ross oil painting kits for Mae and Lena, and she enlisted Mr. Handsome and me to help her pick out the supplies.

The girls were thrilled about their gifts and begged Mr. Handsome to give them a painting lesson. My husband patiently gave his sisters step-by-step instructions for about three hours, and their finished products turned out great.

Just Like Bob Ross

December 20, 2015 by 24 Comments

Yesterday was Mr. Handsome’s first day off (aside from Sundays) in three weeks, and he woke up at 7am! He had received a box of oil paint supplies as an early Christmas present from the staff at his dental practice and wanted to put it to use.My husband painted several pictures as a child, and he mentioned over the summer that he would enjoy picking that hobby back up. So when the office manager asked me for gift ideas, I spent a few hours researching painting supplies and then sent her Amazon links for the Bob Ross Painting Rural America kit and an easel.

(The office manager gave me the credit for doing all the grunt work to make the gift possible, so I ended up inadvertently scoring some wifey points!)

What do you think of Mr. Handsome’s first painting?
