Exploring Mexico Part 2

December 29, 2016 by 32 Comments

Earlier this week, I shared pictures from our first of two port days in Mexico. We sailed into Cozumel and spent eight hours on land touring the Mayan ruins of Tulum, swimming in a cenote, and eating a traditional Mayan meal.At 4:30, we hopped back on the ship and headed to Progreso, also located on the Yucatan Peninsula. There, we boarded a bus and drove two hours to Chichen Itza. We could have spent the day on the beach, but we decided to use our time to sight-see. After all, we live close to Florida and will have many more chances in life to swim in the ocean than we will to visit iconic Mayan ruins. But that beautiful blue water did look inviting.

Here are some snapshots from our day at Chichen Itza…

And here are the photos we took on the ship. I definitely wish we had taken more.

Nice sunset! I was wondering, have you ever thought of trying out a new hairstyle? Bangs, for example, or a shorter look? I like to change my hair every so often and it's really fun!

Bangs are really hard to grow out. I wouldn't.

Speaking of new hairstyles, I did do something a little different just a couple days ago. I chopped off a few inches and added some more blonde highlights. What kinds of changes do you make to your hair?

I make no changes at all! My hair's been doing the same thing with its own natural gentle wave for 40 years. I don't color it. Never have. I have very little if any gray, even though I'm way past the point where other people go gray. I have Grandma's genes to thank for that. The summer sun supplies all the highlights I need. My hair is about the same color as yours in the picture with the red dress, but shorter.

Speaking of hairstyles, IMHO, Mr Handsome's hair looks MUCH nicer in the pics where his bangs are sideswept, instead of combed down straight – I've never seen pics with it like that before ! A bit more stylish, even if unintentional?

Hi Ellie, I'm the first poster. πŸ™‚ I just noticed in your next post that you changed your look a bit. It looks nice! πŸ™‚
I'm 28 now and since I was in my teens I've tried many hairstyles, from very short to hair down my chest- and every lenght in between! I've tried regular bangs, side-swept, adding layers and a lot of other different details. I've never colored my hair but for a couple of years I used to lighten it up with camomille lotion. It was nice to look at, but it ruined my hair a bit.
I simply like to change every once in a while, but for the last 4-5 years I've realized what really works for me, which is to have my hair long enough that I can keep it away from my face, and to have low layers.
For the lenght it depends: since I have a lot of hair, having it really long makes my routine too high maintainance, so I've been keeping it around my shoulders for about a year and a half now.

      Hi Shell,

That was unintentional (probably due to the wind), but it does look good doesn't it? His hair is very thick, so I think it would be hard to keep it that way. Lol.

      To the original poster:

I did change my hair (last week). Thanks for noticing! You sure are observant. πŸ™‚ I cut it a few inches shorter and added some blonde highlights. Definitely the most drastic think I've ever done. Lol.

Sounds like we have very similar hair. I would like to be able to grow my hair out longer, but I have a lot of hair as well, and it just becomes too difficult to deal with.

Yes, that's a beautiful dress and colour on you Ellie! Mr Handsome looks like a pretty tall guy in your pics (his shirt is a wonderful colour too). I notice that you wear beautiful clear colours, which is lovely to see when so many of us play it safe lol

The picture of you and Mr Handsome on formal night is just lovely!! From the pictures it looks like you had a wonderful time and really enjoyed yourselves. I think it is great that Mr Handsome entertained his coworkers with a song. Did you get any of the professional that they take on the ship?

Aww, thank you Shela! We did really enjoy ourselves. We didn't get a chance to go look at the professional photos that they took, so we missed out. Did you get the professional photos on any of your cruises?

Yes I did buy professional pictures. They are on the pricey side but I am a person who loves pictures so they are my cruise keepsakes.

Thank you very much! The dress is the bridesmaid dress from my brother's wedding. I was really glad to have another chance to wear it.

That is a beautiful dress. I would have chosen Mayan ruins over the beach, too. Pre-Columbian history is really interesting.

I love your gown and the pictures are good. In May 2017 my husband and I will be going on our fifth cruise. They are fun and we have decided that this will be our last cruise. I've talk to people that have been on fifteen or more cruises, but five is enough for us. Happy New Year to All

First was Eastern Caribbean and we flew to Miami, Florida to get on ship. Did not like flying, so second was Eastern Caribbean and drove to Baltimore Md. to get on ship, since we only live 70 miles from Baltimore. Third was a Canada, Maine cruise out of Baltimore. Fourth was Western Caribbean out of Baltimore. This last time will be Bahama cruise out of Baltimore.

Sounds like a blast! I love how you've seen a lot of diverse places on your cruises. Enjoy your time in the Bahamas. I just saw an ad for the Bahamas, and it looks like a beautiful destination.
