Between germs and newborn diaper changes, I feel like I’m washing my hands 40 times a day. Until this week, I was using a regular lotion from Trader Joe’s, and it just wasn’t working. I searched online and found a different one, and it has made all the difference. It’s the Skin Relief Moisturizing Lotion from Aveeno. The bottle specifically says “helps heal very dry skin.”
This lotion isn’t any thicker than what I was using before, so I was skeptical. But let me tell you, this stuff really works! Do you struggle with dry skin in the winter? What is your favorite lotion? Or do you have any home remedies to share?
This is not a sponsored post; I am simply sharing a product that I love.

I love Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream. You can get it at Costco; wait for it to go on sale and stock up. I have it in every room of my house and in the car. I don’t find it greasy.

I agree. I also use the Cetaphil lotion. And I too stock up when on sale at Costco.

I’m super sensitive to anything artificial, so I make my own. It works great!

Ugh! We had Covid over Christmas as well as hand, foot, mouth. My hands were chapped and bloody from all the hand washing. Nothing was working. Then my mom told me what used to work for her: dry your hands so they are damp, not completely dry. Rub Vaseline over your hands. Then blot your hands with a damp paper towel which removes the excess. It was the only thing that worked for my hands. I would wipe down the inside of my hands to get the Vaseline off my palms and fingers but would leave the Vaseline on the backs of my hands/fingers. It helped soooo much and was instant relief to the itching and burning sensation I had too. This is just regular Vaseline not Vaseline brand lotion.

Trader Joe’s Head to Toe Balm is OK for my hands but I don’t change diapers all day. You might want to try something in the Aquaphor line or Norwegian Formula by Neutrogena.

Being a busy mom of three under 4, I definitely understand about having rough, dry hands, especially in the winter. After I wash my hands, I will apply a little Palmer’s Cocoa Butter in the solid form. A little goes a long way! At night, I will apply Aquaphor to my hands before bed.

I hear you on the dry hands! My go to hand treatment through the years, has been Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand ointment. It is thick, so you only need a small amount. Also, Aquaphor is really good. If your hands are really bad, slather them with Vaseline at bedtime and put on cotton gloves or cotton socks over your hands.

I use your homemade vaseline and it works great! I put some on my hands before bed every night. I also have used it for our last 2 kids instead of diaper cream and for chapped skin on the kids faces that they get from the cold weather.

I have terribly dry, sensitive skin. For my hands I use Neutrogena hand cream – fragrance free. It is the only thing I can use that helps and does not irritate my skin.

Practical question – do you remove your wedding ring when you wash your hands and apply this stuff? I have dry hands too from diaper changes and I always worry about my rings when applying lotion.
Ellie
I don’t. I probably should though. I’m afraid I’ll lose it.
Anonymous
I don’t either. Most of the lotion you get on your rings should come off with the next soap and water hand washing. Occasionally I take my rings off and soak them in cleaner from the jeweler, then brush the little crevices clean. My rings have gone through many decades of being in contact with lotions and other personal care and household substances without any damage. At least not that my jeweler ever mentioned. All the damage I’ve done was from hitting them hard on something.
Ellie
That’s good to know! Thank you for sharing. Makes me feel a lot better to know that lotion doesn’t seem to harm them.

Gold won’t react with anything like that. Think of the shipwreck gold pulled from the ocean hundreds of years later and how it’s still shiny and intact. The only chemicals that would harm your gold rings would eat your skin off, and you’d notice that first! If you’re worried about germs, then they can theoretically hide under rings, but it’s not going to be enough to harm you. Just wash your hands as usual. Spin your rings around to get soap under there if you’re really worried. Don’t let the rings slip off if you do that.

I love the Dove products! I use Dove Nourishing Secrets Body Lotion, and it’s also good for hands!

I use H2O+ bath and body aquatics body lotion. I am allergic to most soaps and lotions plus alcohol dries my skin out.

I use a product called miracle cream. It’s all natural. It’s helped me get off the prescription eczema cream I’d been on!
