Must-Have Baby Items

November 18, 2018 by 116 Comments

With Black Friday and Christmas sales starting to pop up, I’m scrambling to purchase the last baby items on my list. We recently received a gift card from friends with the inscription, “Baby’s almost here, and you’re going to need lots of gear.” That couldn’t be more accurate! For someone so small, he sure does require a lot of stuff.

I’m a bit of a minimalist, so before I purchase anything or add it to my gift registry, I always ask myself if I really, truly need it. Sometimes the answer is no, but more often than not, it’s yes. Raising a baby would be pretty difficult without clothing, diapers, wipes, pacifiers, a car seat, a stroller, blankets, burp cloths, a crib, some type of diaper bag…and the list goes on. But there’s also a long list of “not complete necessities but they sure do make life easier” items.

As Mr. Handsome and I prepare for our baby boy, we want to make sure we have what we need. Whether you’re a parent or just someone who has been around babies, what are some items that you recommend we purchase? They can be absolute necessities or just things that will make our life easier. Ready, Set, Go!

A Wedding Gift Made with Love

May 7, 2015 by 9 Comments

On Easter Sunday, just a few weeks after Mr. Handsome proposed, we received our first wedding gift in the mail. I opened the box and found a layer of burlap and a homemade card.

We celebrate your union, as this year we celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Of all the memories, I’m reminded that the best were of the simple things from the heart.

The card was signed by distant relatives who live 2,000 miles away. I had only met them once and was touched that they had taken the time to send a gift, and so soon after the engagement. We hadn’t even finalized our wedding registry yet!

I unwrapped the burlap and found a beautiful, handmade quilt. Each square had a fruit of the Spirit and a Bible verse written in perfect cursive print. I had tears in my eyes as I showed the quilt to Mr. Handsome and our parents. This gift was definitely from the heart, but there was nothing simple about it. She had spent hours making a quilt for us, and we barely knew her. I think this is going to be my favorite wedding gift, and I look forward to hanging it in our home.
