A few of my readers have asked that I post pictures of our Christmas decorations. I have to admit that we don’t have many. We have very limited storage space, and our little house is already full of non-Christmas decor. But I do enjoy decorating, so I’m hoping to do more in the coming years. This year, we bought a five-foot tree from The Home Depot. (When we have children, we definitely plan to make a tradition of visiting a Christmas tree farm to cut down our tree.) It’s a cute little tree and is the perfect size for our strand of colored lights and couple dozen ornaments, my favorite of which is the tree stump ornament I made last year for our first Christmas. We also put colored lights on the bush in front of our house.
We scored this cute “Noel” sign at a Dirty Santa/White Elephant gift exchange earlier this season.
This gold Christmas tree and porcelain angel are from my sister-in-law Anne. She purchased them from a thrift store for 50 cents each. Behind them, you can see the DIY stocking I sewed for Mr. Handsome’s birthday last year. Click here to watch the tutorial that I used.
And this is a small “Joy to the World” chalkboard sign that I made, using a glue gun to attach the little decorations. We also have the snow scene that Mr. Handsome painted hanging in our kitchen. Do you decorate for the holidays? Do you go all out?

Your Christmas tree is pretty. Yes, I do like to decorate for Christmas. My put up a artificial tree, less mess and I like snowmen the best.

Thank you! It's true that artificial trees are less messy, and you don't have to worry about watering them. Lol.
Have a Merry Christmas.

I only decorate my living room. I use the Command hooks that won't damage my walls and I string wide ribbon between them. I use silver and gold mini clothespins to hang my Christmas cards on the ribbon. After Christmas I take all of my cards and pick one a day to say a special prayer for that family.
I also made a 6 foot tall felt Christmas tree with felt ornaments. My kids hang one ornament a day starting December 1. It's a special tree because the ornaments we made all have meaning (one that looks like each pet, special favorites, and even a replica of a beloved stuffed animal). I hang it with Command hooks- I seriously love those hooks.
Of course we have a tree and stockings and lights throughout our living room.

Those are wonderful decoration ideas! And what a sweet thing to hang your Christmas cards up and then pray for each family. I love it! How old are your kids?

Christmas decorating is so much fun! Every year we buy something special to add to our Christmas decorations. Whether it's a special bauble or something to decorate the house. I love special decorations like the handmade decorations I inherited from my Nana. And the special tree decorations from my mother in law

I totally agree that meaningful decorations are the best. Rather than go all out and buy a ton of ornaments and decorations off the bat, I'm going to wait to acquire meaningful items as the years go on. Merry Christmas, Robyn!

Beautiful! I live with my mother, since I'm her full-time caretaker, and since my father died five years ago we needed a short break from Christmas decorations. However, since then we have an artificial Christmas tree (white with brightly coloured decorations), but also many self-made items around the house, like a basket with different evergreen branches and LED candles on the dining room table, and we put our handcrafted wooden Christ in a prominent place, surrounded by candles – one for each person that we have lost due to illness or age. So for us our Christmas decorations are both there to enjoy, but also to remember those who are looking down on us now. ๐

Homemade decorations are wonderful. And what a wonderful way to remember your loved ones. How sweet of you to be your mother's caretaker. I hope you both have a very merry Christmas!

Your tree looks very pretty.
I haven't put a tree up since 1997. I unequally put decorations up but this year I didn't since I been sick and didn't feel like doing it this year.
I already celebrated Christmas early.

I have cats who won't leave anything alone, so I can't decorate. They'd have a tree sideways in 60 seconds. They chomp anything they can get their paws on. So while everyone else is taking trees down and packing decorations away in January, I'm relaxing. But I do have boxes and boxes of old blown glass Christmas ornaments from my mother, my grandmother, and even my great-grandmother. Some are from the very early 1900's, some from the 1920's, and some are from the 1940's and 50's. Many were made in Germany. I love the look of the older Christmas decorations. As I was growing up, my mother let me get one special ornament a year for myself. I used to go shopping with her for the ornament and I always picked something distinctive. I still have those ornaments, which are getting up there in years. And I have a collection of old bisque Snow Babies figurines from the 1920's as well as newer ones from the 1990's. (If you don't know what they are, look them up.) All of those are under glass for safekeeping.

Wow, those sound like beautiful decorations. I looked up Snow Babies, and they are very pretty. How many cats do you have?

We have 3 cats, but they're big male Maine Coon purebreds, so it's like having 6 or 9 "normal" cats. Or monkeys. Or toddlers. Just as busy and destructive. ๐

When my daughter was little, my husband and I would take her with us into the woods and cut a natural tree down. We had so much fun. Now, we have an artificial tree, and my cats keep trying to open presents! We used to have a decorated tree on the front porch, and starting on the 23rd, we would take one gift for each child, put it under the tree, knock on the door and hide. The kids would be so excited, but they caught on to us after a couple of years.

I don't put a tree up either because I have 1 cat and I would be afraid she would knock it over. My sister doesn't put a tree up either she had 6 cats now she has 4 cats.
