Nursing-Themed Party

September 12, 2017 by 19 Comments

My party-planning sister-in-law, Anne, recently decided to host a tea for two friends who passed their nursing board exams. Per her usual self, she wanted to do a healthcare theme. The results were quite clever! These ideas could be replicated for a party for anyone in the healthcare field.

“An apple a day keeps the nurse away” (apple slices); “Kisses for your boo-boo” (Hershey’s Kisses); “Tongue Depressors” (Sugar Wafers); “Vitamins” (Gummy Bears)
Electrocardiogram sugar cookies
“Thermometer” chocolate-covered pretzels
“Clogged Arteries” (licorice); “Postoperative Popcorn” (popcorn)
“Nurses are lifesavers” (LifeSaver candies)

I don't know exactly why but saying postoperative popcorn is funny! The whole party tickles the funny bone! Way to go Anne! And thanks Ellie for another cute, interesting blog share from your life.

Just wondering Ellie, are you going to keep posting videos on how you and Mr Handsome met? I would love to hear the ending of Mr Handsome' s story and also your side of the story!

Yes! With moving, we kind of forgot about those, but I'll put it on my to-do list to film some more. 🙂

You might need a nurse after eating all that sugar.

I'm sure there were plenty of people at this party and usually a person will just try a single cookie rather than lets say 3, or 1-2 pretzels with the frosting. My point is,if eaten sparingly, some sugar isn't bad for a person in the right amount.

I agree with the OP. It looks like the food was planned more for the effect and to make the name puns, and not for balance between sweet and non-sweet. I have diabetic friends and I don't know what they could have eaten there, other than the apples.

Probably the licorice is probably sugar free.
Your diabetic friends could eat some of this stuff if they take insulin then they are ok. I take insulin and my doctor said it was ok. Just have them not eat lunch before they go.

My doctor make regular cake for everyone in his office and gave some to the patients and it did effect my sugar that much.

The pretzels are probably made with sugar free frosting. They have sugar free wafers, licorice,Gummy Bears

Popcorn is still high on the glycemic index. The pretzels look like they're dipped in candy-melt coating, or melted white chocolate chips. Those are not sugar-free. I doubt that sugar-free products were used or served. A lot of people are sensitive to the sorbitol or other substitutes used in sugar-free foods. Those can cause gastric distress. You shouldn't serve sugar-free foods without letting your guests know that in advance.

Your sister in law is so creative. My daughter is a senior in high school and desires to pursue nursing. This is a very nice idea for passing an exam. This has given me ideas. Thank you for your post and your wonderful blog. 😊
