A Goal for 2016

January 3, 2016 by 12 Comments

Do you have any New Year’s resolutions? My goal for 2016 is to read through the Bible. I created a two-year reading plan for my sister-in-law’s high school Awana group, although I hope to complete it by January 1st, 2017.

Instead of listing specific chapters for each day, my reading plan has monthly goals. That means you don’t have to worry about getting off track if you miss a couple days.

Would you like to join me in reading through the Bible? My reading plan is embedded below, or you can click here to open it in a new window.

      Hi there,

Right now, reading through the Bible is my only New Year's resolution.

Oh, get out of town! This is EXACTLY what I was planning today! Make it a month-by-month thing for the inevitable sick day, vacation, emergency, etc. where I wouldn't be able to read the Bible that day. Doesn't happen a ton but it does happen. Great idea!

That's a good plan. The pastor's wife at my church had a used set of The Bible Story by Aruthur S. Maxwell, and ask me if I wanted them. There is more than 400 stories in ten volumes covering the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation. The books are for the younger generation, but that's okay. I won't have any trouble understanding it. I heard a blessing at a table some years ago. Now I say it with my grandkids. It goes "Fold your hands, bow your head, thank the Lord for food and bread. Pray that there's a goodly share for all the children everywhere." Amen

The Bible story books by Arthur Maxwell are great. I bought a set to use for homeschooling my daughter. She's five, and she loves the fact that she can read them to herself when we aren't in "school". Plus, I purchased a set for her piano teacher who also homeschools her children.

I like your idea of the two year reading plan. Often we try to come up with the different formats of the one year plan and then get discouraged because we miss and get behind. We should make time for God every day in our life, but this might also seem more realistic to those who struggle with time or read at a slower pace. Thank you for sharing this! A great goal – Happy New Year!

Reading through the Bible is my goal for 2016 also! I have tried reading plans and would get discouraged when I fell behind. This year I am going to start in Genesis and read a few chapters each night until I reach the end in Revelation. Then start over again! Good Luck everyone!
