The title pretty much sums up this post. Are any of my readers right there with me? With a toddler and a newborn, the best gift I can give myself this holiday season is sleep. We made homemade, deep dish pizza (one of Mr. Handsome’s family traditions….more on that in a later post) and drank sparkling grape juice before putting Little Buddy to bed. Then I fed the baby while we watched two episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show (Mr. Handsome loves that show, and it was his night to choose what to watch) and called it a night. Mr. Handsome stayed up another hour to get the baby to sleep, but we were all in bed well before 11pm.
It was the earliest and quietest New Years Eve that either of us have had since early childhood, but it was a good one.
I am looking forward to sharing my birth story with all of you, although it was a harrowing experience, and it will take me a little time to put together the energy to relive and write the story. Stay tuned.
How did all of you spend New Years Eve?
Lydia
I went to bed at 10. But only because I was working. Otherwise it would have been 9.

“His night to choose?” Wow! Do you have to ask permission to watch TV in your own house?!

I also went to bed by 10 p.m. The old me would have never dreamed of going to bed without ringing in the New Year, but I’ve gotten older now and priorities change. There were people doing fireworks around the neighborhood so I was able to hear the fireworks go off at Midnight while cozy and warm in bed. It was wonderful honestly. I think I put too much pressure on myself in the past to stay up until Midnight, but it feels good now to just do whatever I want. With age comes wisdom I guess

I was in bed by 9 also! I see no reason to lose sleep. Lol. My kids aren’t babies (8, 11, & 13), but I have a busy life and need my energy. We had a fun evening anyway with pizza and a movie and New Year’s poppers!

We did curbside pickup of pizza (first pizza in 2 years) and watched Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper from Times Square. We did stay up and watch the ball drop although one of us dozed off and needed to be prodded by the other just before midnight.
The world should welcome every new day the way it welcomed this day!
Ellie
I agree, I enjoy the hype of NYE. I would have gotten back up at 11 Central to watch the ball drop, but we couldn’t find the channel. 🙁

CNN and NBC both had New York coverage. They do every year. ABC had Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve but I don’t know if they showed everything leading up to the ball drop the way the other 2 stations did, or if they only cut away from the music performances for the final countdown.

We watched the Friends Reunion last evening. I too was in bed early as I had to work today. Happy New Year to all of you.

This was the FIRST NYE I’ve stayed up to midnight since by daughter was born. She’s 3.5 😝 Congratulations on your new baby.
Gabrielle!
What is this little baby boy gonna be called on here?
New Years Eve I hung out with a friend!
Ellie
That’s a good question. We were talking about that the other day. Maybe Little Buckaroo?
MarriedUK
How about Baby Buddy? I still call my second child “little bear” as I thought it was so snuggly and tiny when he was born! Other thoughts:
Little sidekick (a name he can grow into)
Tiny Buddy
OR
Change little Buddy to Big Buddy and call the new baby Little Buddy
Ellie
Those are great ideas. I will share them with Mr. Handsome 🙂
Gabrielle!
That’s cute! I like that;)

I too went to bed early. I had every intention of staying up until midnight but I passed out by ten. I started a new job last week that required me to be there at 6 am that meant getting up around 4:30 which was something I haven’t done in a while. So my body was getting used to going to bed by 9 pm at the latest. As a kid the goal was to always stay up. Or try and get mom and dad to let me. As I got older and was allowed to stay up I found it no longer mattered. New Year’s Day is just another day. Hope you had a wonderful evening in. Sparkling juice is a wonderful drink for celebrating a new year.
Ellie
Congratulations on your new job, Lauren!

I stayed up late out of sheer excitement. I’m getting a son in law! My daughter is getting married! Her now fiancée talked to us and we were happy to give them our blessing. She’s been dating him for two years and they are an adorable couple. They are looking at a 2023 wedding. Otherwise, I would’ve been fast asleep too. Happy New Year to you and your family!!
Ellie
Congratulations, Kelly! How exciting!

Happy New Year and have a blessed Year. Congratulations on your new baby boy.
Christine
Just out of curiosity/interest: Do you and Mr. Handsome drink alcohol (when you are not pregnant or breastfeeding, of course)?
Karen
Starting out the new year and with a newborn, how wonderful !
What nickname are you giving him ?
Just wondering why the nicknames and not the name you chose ?
Ellie
Haven’t quite decided on the nickname yet. We actually call our older son Little Buddy most of the time 🙂

Maybe you can tell Little Buddy since he is older now you will call him Buddy and his baby brother will now be Little Buddy. I would like to know what Little Buddy thinks about that. I tried to stay up but started to feel bad about 11:30 and thought well it’s time for to hit the hay.🙂
Dani
I stayed up until 9pm maybe? I have a one of year old. The fireworks at midnight woke us up. Thankfully I got us all back to sleep quickly. I don’t like losing sleep 🙂
Elizabeth
Congratulations!! Such exciting news.
Was your baby born before or after Christmas?
B
Didn’t even watch the ball drop. I put on the one with Ryan Seacrest in time Square but since their wasn’t any people their it was boring. So I watch Christmas movies tell after midnight.
