To all the animal lovers out there: Y’all are going to love this post. :)My hubby recently cashed in on his joint Christmas present from his grandparents and me, which was a four-hour guided fishing trip on a local lake.
The weather was beautiful, and we had a wonderful time catching fish, but the highlight for me was feeding the two ducks that touched down beside our boat and swam along with us.
The male duck looked pretty normal to me, but the female was a much lighter shade than any of the female ducks I had ever seen.
She also had a beautiful blue feather, which you can kind of see here…
Is it just me, or does the angle of her beak make it look like she is smiling?
They stuck really close to the boat and at one point came up beside the ladder and looked like they were trying to find a way in. Am I the only one who thinks these ducks are absolutely precious?

This was a good post, I loved it! The ducks are precious! Did you feed them? I have a crow friend that stops by my house daily for snacks that I put out in a tree. Also there are squirrels, that get Peanuts and rabbits that just eat the spring plants. I like all the animals and birds.
We did feed them, Ritz crackers. I've never heard of a crow taking a liking to people. How neat!

The crow knows where the snacks are, sometimes it is sitting in the trees watching me, I think it knows I am the snack person and it is waiting and maybe asking for more, when it caws as it flies by I think it may be saying thank-you!
It is interesting to look up about birds in the Bible. For example a speckled bird of prey is in Jeremiah 12:9. The commentary says speckled represents a mix of religion and the world. In Revelations 19:17 the birds are called together for a great banquet God has prepared and to get the rest of the verses go and read it.
That's sweet because you don't think of crows as being super friendly. It's hilarious because the cat that comes to our door to be fed has already figured out that he's more likely to get food from me than from my husband. When he sees me, he comes running! Lol

Awww. I was actually at a resort last week with my family and we were in the pool swimming. And there was a mother duck and four little ducklings following behind and they were walking around the pool. They even would get in and swim around sometimes 😊☺😊☺

Not alone:) We had a baby duck once and it was getting bigger and since we didn't have a pond we thought it would be happier if we brought it to some water. The whole family loaded up in the truck with a few in the back with the little duck, and headed to the small river. After putting it on the ground it started straight for the water, but just to turn around and waddle right back to us. This happened a few times, like it didn't want to stay, so we thought maybe that wasn't the right spot for it. Halfway between the river and our house was a field with a small stream leading to the river. We let the duck out again and this time as it was on its way to the water, with bushes growing along the stream, it stopped, turned around and waddled back to us quacking. It looked up at us, still quacking as if to say goodbye, then straight to the stream it went never to be seen again…but very satisfied in its new home I'm sure:)

It was actually sad to say goodbye to it, but we couldn't keep it penned up forever. My parents got it from a hatchery I think. My youngest brother was about 7 or 8 and enjoyed animals, which is why they got it…and my mom thought it would be cute! 🙂
That must have been very sad. Did the duck like to be pet, or did it keep to itself?

Oh my goodness, they are so beautiful! Mallard ducks seem naturally inquisitive and friendly. Several years ago, a pair of Mallards "adopted" my family – they came by our house three times a day on a very predictable schedule to eat and visit. 🙂 Later that summer they started a family and moved away, although they still made occasional visits.
That blue patch on the female is a signature marking of the Mallard duck. Mallards in the wild frequently cross with other breeds (often domesticated), so this likely explains her unusually pale coloring.
Thanks for enlightening me on ducks. 🙂 How funny that those ducks came to your house on a predictable schedule. It seems like they're a lot smarter than we give them credit for, don't you think?

there is a video posted this past week of a mother goose soliciting help from a police officer to help her gosling tangled in a balloon string. not only is this video enjoyable to watch, it does show that animals are smart.
Just saw that video. It's very cute! I really do think that many animals are smarter than we think they are.

I just love ducks…especially baby ducklings. They're so adorable! The male duck looks similar to the male we used to have. We had a female as well, and she looked like the one in your picture, except ours didn't have the blue feather. They are so funny. We would take the male away from the female and put him at the top of our hill. The female would be way off, and the male would run as fast as he could down the hill, quacking all the while, and the female would quack when we took him away from her, and they would run to each other quacking, join and keep running off together. IT was so funny to watch them. 🙂
A few of us wanted to hatch some baby ducklings, so we tried sticking the mom in a cage by herself with the egg, but she didn't want to sit on it.
I wish we still had them…:) What a nice present you all were gifted with! 😀

We took my niece to the zoo and we were feed the ducks and one of the ducks bite her hand and my niece said bad duck.she was 3 at the time. Evertime we go back to the zoo she always saids bad duck. She will be 10 on June 10.

A couple of years ago we had to ducks sitting in my yard. I took a picture and found the picture the other day.

The pictures are cute – I imagine you all enjoyed each others company! One day a few years ago, my husband, daughter and I were picking up my mother. As we turned on to the street that she lives on we saw a mother duck leading her babies down the street. My husband started telling us that sometimes the mother leads them over the sewer drain and the babies fall in and the fire department has to come and get them out. We enjoyed watching them parade on down the road and then, sure enough, the mother walked over the sewer drain and one by one the babies fell down. The mother was frantic. My husband called the fire department and we waited for them to show up. Then they were able to go down and bring the babies back out and place them with the mother. It was a happy ending and the really neat thing was that it was Mother's Day.
Wow! What a neat story! And how sweet of the firefighters to help out. I'm thinking that rescuing baby ducks is not in their job descriptions. LOL
