Italian Artist Salvatore Garau just sold a sculpture for $18,300, which is an impressive feat for any artist. What’s more impressive is that this is an “immaterial sculpture.” According to the artist, “You don’t see it, but it exists; it is made of air and spirit.” The only material thing that the buyer received was a certificate of authenticity.
As many of you know, Mr. Handsome is an artist, and he would like me to tell you that he would happily sell an invisible sculpture for half the price. For only $7,125, you can own a sculpture just like the one that Garau created. In fact, he is willing to put in twice the amount of “air and spirit,” just for good measure.
To follow suit, I am starting an invisible blog. Who is interested in reading it? The only issue is that it doesn’t show up on Google, which makes sense, considering that it is invisible. We are currently seeking investors to join us on the ground floor of this new venture. For $1,000, you will receive 10 percent equity in our blog. Like invisible sculptures, invisible blogs are very costly.
Unfortunately, payment must be made in US Dollars. We cannot accept payment in invisible money at this time.

LOL well I guess I’ll start my own real estate business selling invisible homes for 500 grand and up. They will be immaterial homes but I promise you will receive the title for them at time of purchase. I’ll get back to you with all the details and their locations if interested.

Yes, I’d spend that much if the artist was well known and owning that certificate could be a valuable investment. I know someone with over 60 Warhols, some more impressive than others, but they’re all Warhols so all have value. If Warhol had doodled on a napkin in a restaurant, I would have kept it and displayed it. Conceptual art such as that statue is a real thing in the art world.

🙂 While I love your husband’s artwork, I will simply have to pass on his invisible art. Same with an invisible blog start-up. I can’t believe someone was ignorant enough to buy Garau’s sculpture. Wow. You know, it’s really hot here. I don’t feel much like cooking. Maybe my husband would accept an “invisible supper.”

I wouldn’t spend $18,000 on a visible sculpture.

I love this.. I’m going to need to advertise invisible housekeeping or something!

$18,000 is a nothing thing to some art collectors. They would do it just for the novelty of it.

😂😂😂😂😆😆😆😆Ellie, you two crack me up. Thank you for the much needed laugh.

Since when do artists criticize other artists? Maybe Garau would think that moody cows and apocalyptic cityscapes are overpriced.

Mr H says he has nothing but respect for someone who is able to sell an invisible sculpture for $18,000. No criticism here. 🙂

Me and three of my friends are artist, maybe not known like some artist and yes artist do comment about other artist work. Some work we consider bizarre. For someone who offers an invisible piece of art is just being eccentric and weird but the person who actually paid for it, well that’s a whole different set of issues. LOL

Well I guess the concept here isn’t new, since that old story of The Emperor’s New Clothes 😆 Now it’s just become a crazy reality for people!!

I read not long ago that before, people used to admire art (paintings, sculptures) without knowing the name of the artist. Now, they admire artists without work. This one is the archetype of the new trend! Mr Garau is totally right in ripping off gullible buyers. If someone is fullish enough to part with that amount of money for nothing…….
Eileen
Nope, certainly would not!
