Ice cream is Mr. Handsome’s favorite dessert. He loves blueberry pie, too, but it has to have ice cream on it. He enjoys cake–but only with ice cream. I suppose the one thing he adores that doesn’t involve ice cream is my cherry strudel. And he would probably eat it with ice cream if such an action was socially acceptable. He mentioned doing that once, and I told him I had worked way too hard on my strudel for it to be defaced by ice cream.
Such a statement might make you think that I have something against ice cream. I don’t. In fact, I really like ice cream. It just all depends on the kind of mood I’m in and what flavor it is. And what the other dessert options are. Ice cream doesn’t deserve the time of day if there are fancier deserts available, such as tiramisu or an authentic French crepe. (I’m guessing most folks would agree with me on that.) But since it’s very rare that such desserts present themselves in my life, I settle for ice cream.
For our wedding, we opted out of the more traditional wedding cake and instead rented a soft serve ice cream machine so our guests could make milkshakes. It ended up being simpler and cheaper than cake and was a huge hit on what turned out to be a 90-degree day. Instead of feeding each other cake, we fed each other milkshakes (as shown in the photo above).
Mr. Handsome’s favorite ice cream flavors are cookie dough and moose tracks. I like a variety of different flavors, but I hold a special place in my heart for Neapolitan. Our favorite ice cream brands are Breyers and Turkey Hill…and any others with a limited amount of preservatives and additives. What about you? Is ice cream your favorite dessert? And do you have a favorite flavor and brand?
