Snowed In

January 20, 2019 by 36 Comments

breakfast in bedDid any of you get a big dump of snow this week? In Tennessee, we woke up to what I would call a “heavy dusting” this morning, but since that’s about as much as we ever get, we’ll call it a “big dump.” With flu season at its peak, we are still keeping Mr. H Jr. away from crowds, so we watched our church’s sermon online in our pajamas. Our little guy has several fussy moments during the day, but he usually does very well at night. On average, he wakes up three times to eat but falls back asleep within 30-40 minutes, so we can’t complain.

This morning, Mr. Handsome, who has been very attentive to my needs during my recovery from labor and delivery, brought me breakfast in bed–a banana, an orange, trail mix, a homemade latte, and a slice of candied bacon. After watching the sermon, we went for a short walk to show Mr. H Jr. the snow and then settled in for an afternoon of playoff football. Anyone else watch the Rams beat the Saints? Now we’re tuned into the Patriots/Chiefs games and are hoping to see the Chiefs advance to the Super Bowl.

Enjoy your cozy snow day at home. I’ll bet you’re relieved to not still be pregnant and have to worry about getting to the hospital with the snowy roads.

Very relieved! That was one good thing about having a scheduled induction, not having to do the emergency drive to the hospital. With it being January, we were definitely concerned about weather.

We watched the game too…very disappointed the chiefs couldn’t pull off a win. You got more snow than us! I’m in NJ and all we got was rain although it is bitterly cold now. Windchill is around 10 below.

Yes we got snow in Illinois 4.5 inches and it was very cold out yesterday too. After it stopped snow I went outside to shovel and slide on some icy that was underneath I was lucky I didn’t hurt myself but had trouble getting back up.

Glad to hear you’re okay, B! Falling on ice is frightening. When I was 10 years old, I fell while ice skating and broke my arm. Not fun.

Snow days are fun. We had a big snow on New Year’s Eve we will probably get one more big snow before winter is over. We aren’t into football so we didn’t watch the game. How are you adjusting to motherhood?

A snow day on New Year’s Eve would be a blast. I am adjusting well, thanks for asking! It’s definitely been a change, but he’s so adorable that it’s hard to be upset, even when he’s wailing for no apparent reason.

The wails will most likely stop in a few weeks, once baby’s tummy settles and adjusts to eating. The only time I cried as a new mother was at night when my baby’s belly seemed to hurt her and I just couldn’t fix it. Doctor was right… in just a few weeks, she was comfortable and happy, and life was (sleepily) blissful. 😊 Enjoy these early days! What a blessing to be a mommy.

Here in CT we got about 6 inches of snow and some freezing rain. We’re in a deep freeze also. Windy too!

We relaxed all day long yesterday, and it was wonderful!

Temps at 0 F and wind chill at -20 F. That’s QUITE an unusual wind chill for CT. Thankfully, it’s only here for a couple/few days.

Snow here builds up and stays for months. Laterly it’s somedays been cold -20s c and dipping lower even to -30s c sometimes at night. Then the wind compounds the effect.
It must be fun to get your kind of snow dumps and show them to your winter baby already! I liked everything you described, up until watching football then you lost me. But Mr H scores a point for serving you breakfast in bed.

Congratulations on your handsome blessing 💙. Glad you all are home and settling. Enjoy every little moment! Such a precious gift. My favorite time, when my boys (4) were little was our evening snuggle in the rocking chair before bed. 😄. Two are on their own now, one is headed to college, and we just registered “the baby” for high school!

Thank you, Jennifer! I am constantly reminding myself to enjoy every moment, so that’s great advice. I know it won’t be long before he’s grown up and no longer wants to snuggle with Mama.

Does your husband know how to cook? Seems like you should be having more than fruit and trail mix for breakfast and only one piece of bacon. Do you like eggs?

Yep he loves cooking. When he makes dinner, he usually does it on the grill, but he will make food indoors, too. Eggs in large amounts (small amounts used in baking are okay, but anything more than that is not) don’t sit well with me, so I am a difficult person to make breakfast for.

You can have protein oatmeal. Steel cut outs with 1 or 2 egg whites, some almond milk, cinnamon and a very small amount of maple sugar after it is cooked on the stove too. Egg whites melt right in so you would never know they are in there!

I agree that there should be more to breakfast than that. However, since Ellie documented that she struggled with all-day nausea during her pregnancy, maybe her stomach still can’t tollerate larger meals. This could be breakfast #1! As long as she is eating healthy and enough to produce milk (assuming she is nursing) for baby, that’s all that matters!
