Quality Time with Sisters

January 11, 2016 by 19 Comments

As I mentioned last week, we spent a three-day weekend with my in-laws over New Year’s. Mr. Handsome spent a few hours on Saturday afternoon giving art lessons to his two youngest sisters, Mae and Lena.He pulled up a Google image of a parrot and showed them how to copy it. They wanted to draw a sunset, but my husband convinced them that the parrot would be more fun. (He actually chose the parrot because he knows how much I like birds.)

Once again, I was blown away by Mr. Handsome’s artistic talent! I stopped by Goodwill and found a frame for $1.99 and then hung his masterpiece in our kitchen.

Mr. Handsome’s latest piece of artwork

The girls, ages 12 and 14, did a fabulous job on their parrots. Mr. Handsome used to spend a lot of time with them before we moved to Tennessee, so I was glad to see the three of them have a chance to do something fun together.

As I wrote in my “How I Met My Husband” post last summer, one of the things that stuck out to me during my first encounter with Mr. Handsome three-and-a-half years ago was his relationship with these two girls. Seeing how much he genuinely enjoyed spending time with them told me a lot about his character.

Mae and Lena enjoy their art lesson with Mr. Handsome…

      Hi there,

My husband plays bluegrass music, so he thought it would be fun to spend some time near Nashville. He has been in a couple Christian/bluegrass bands in the past and hopes to find a way to continue to use his musical talents to glorify God.

Mr. Handsome seems to do a beautiful job with art. He also seems to have that genuine spirit of giving and reaching out to help others. Do you enjoy doing art? Also, if you don't mind being asked, what cities have you lived in, and why did you chose Nashville currently? How far do you have to travel to your parents and in-laws?

      Hi there,

Thank you for your kind words. He does enjoy helping others. I'm not as artistic as my husband, but someday I hope to try my hand at painting. I've only ever lived in the suburbs outside a city, and both Mr. Handsome and I hope to live in the country someday. We chose Nashville because he plays music as a hobby and is looking for more ways to use his talent to glorify God. πŸ™‚

      Blessings,
      Ellie

It is wonderful that Mr Handsome has such a close relationship with his sisters. I think us ladies can learn a lot about men's character by the way they treat the women in their life (mother, sister, aunt, etc) I think it is great that you also support Mr Handsome staying close with his Sisters.

Thank you, Shela. I completely agree; the way a man treats the women in his family speaks volumes about his character. πŸ™‚

I get that a lot. πŸ™‚ Because I finished college early and married "young," I have a lot of friends who are several years older, and I love that we still have tons in common. There is one guy, who is my husband's friend from dental school and has been married almost three years, who often makes lighthearted comments about my age. But then my husband reminds him that 40 years from now, they will all wish they were my age! πŸ˜‰

I guess they are a few years older? πŸ™‚
Anyways, often boys mature later than girls, so I think that if someone has completed their education and feels ready for the next step (marriage or anything else), age is just a number. πŸ™‚

I still think you should volunteer at a local bird rescue. It's a win, win.
