Since we moved into our house, I have wanted to redo our main bathroom. The other bathroom was recently updated, but this one was about 30 years old and in desperate need of a facelift. It’s not technically a master, but it’s the one we use, so I was reminded daily how bad it was.
When quarantine started and Mr. Handsome became temporarily unemployed, he informed me that he was going to make my dream become a reality. It took a few weeks, but he got it done, and I’m so proud of him! I have included before and after photos. What do you think?
Kelly
Mr. Handsome did a wonderful job! I love the blue color of the cabinets. My husband has also been using this time to tackle a number of small projects around our house.
Ellie
Thank you, Kelly! What projects has your husband been able to do?
Kelly
Ellie-The biggest project has involved cleaning out our basement. It has been a big undertaking but our two kids are living with us at this time and they’ve been a tremendous help. He’s also installed some shelving units and spruced up the shrubbery in our yard. I’m so grateful for all the work he’s done!!
Ellie
A clean basement is a wonderful feeling! I’m working on some similar cleaning and organizing projects. And I’m sure you’re enjoying the spruced up yard. 🙂

Oh Ellie I love it! It’s very rustic and very pretty. I think the colors are very nice. Your husband did a great job with the bathroom. Thank you for sharing.

It looks amazing. My dad tackled my mom’s hunny do list. Their downstairs looks completely different. So does the craft room and the hallway. I wish we could have gotten stuff done at my house but money is tight. We will get it done when we can
Ellie
Thanks, OhioMama. That’s very sweet of your dad. Great timing, too, since we just had Mother’s Day.
OhioMama
My mom says that my dad went over board on it. They took down they were in the living room and my dad told my mom to take the wallpaper down (this wallpaper has been in their living room since I was 4, but probably longer since it was my grandparents house). Before he could change his mind my mom started ripping the wallpaper down. The one wall the had paneling on it actually fell down on my dad when he was taking the base boards down to redo the flooring.
Ellie
Oh my!
OhioMama
That falling down is what got them to redo the walls. A lot of what he has been doing is more him then what my mom wanted done but it looks amazing

Ellie it’s beautiful! Wonderful job, tell Mr. Handsome it’s great. You are blessed to have such a talented husband. There’s nothing like updating a house to lift your spirits. I think a rug on the floor with some blue in it would tie things together nicely. 🙂
Ellie
I’ll tell him. 🙂 Ooh, that’s a great idea!
Mom of three
That looks very nice. He did a great job.
Ellie
Thanks, Mom of three!

I actually found Charmin on the supermarket shelf today! Not much, but it was there. I almost fell over. Hadn’t seen it since March. Limit 2 per customer but even so, I was thrilled. It was like running into an old friend. Such excitement over some TP!
Ellie
Haha! That was how I felt when I saw it at Costco a few weeks ago. And they only had a small amount, so I’m glad I was there first thing in the morning or else it would have been gone.

It’s beautiful! How nice that your husband used his time at home to do a project that would make you so happy! Would you mind telling where you got the flooring and what the color is? That’s pretty much the same look I’d like when we do our family room. Thank you!
Ellie
Thank you, Kris! It’s called Duttonwood Ash. It’s ceramic and it’s from Home Depot. Very affordable! Less than $100 for our whole bathroom.
Ellie

Thank you so much, Ellie. I really appreciate the information and I’ll check it out!

Could you share what type of paint you used on the vanity? Thanks!
Ellie
Sure! I’ll have to go dig out the can, but I’ll let you know, either in my next blog post or as a direct response to this comment. 🙂

isnt it wonderful to have something done like this? and it looks awesome too! love the faucets. they sure make it easier to get things in and out of the sink than your older ones i bet. i put one similar (gooseneck) in mine 10 years ago and wished i had done it when the kids were smaller
Ellie
Yes! So much easier. I think it’s going to be great for kids.

Curious about why you went with a warm tone countertop when the rest of the room is cool tones. A story behind that countertop? Is it wood or stone?
Ellie
That’s a good question. We wanted the countertop to pop and sort of be the focal point. It’s a butcher block that Mr. H added a special countertop epoxy to.
Lynette
It looks great!
Ellie
Thanks, Lynette!
Marilyn
Just love it. Blue is my favorite color.
Ellie
Thank you, Marilyn! 🙂

I like your bathroom, your husband did a great job. Although if it was mine, I would have had him paint it purple because my favorite color is purple:-) LOL
Ellie
Thank you! I like purple, too. It’s a great color. It’s actually Mr. Handsome’s favorite, too. 🙂
Ellie
Candi
Great job!! I wondering if you had painted the walls white if that all would’ve popped out a little more and look a bit farmhouse style? Maybe you don’t care for that, Idk, but I sure do like how the look of white paint and wood tones go together! I’m sure it uplifted y’all to have an update like that!
Ellie
That’s very true. White definitely would have made everything else pop more. We went with a gray because that’s what the rest of the house is, but I also like white.

Could you talk in a post about how your husband’s dental practice is operating these days, and what extra precautions dental practices have to take? I’m overdue for my 6-month cleaning and worried about going to the rescheduled appointment later this summer. I’d like to know what sort of extra cleaning, ventilation, masking, and face shielding steps dentists are taking because of the virus. There is a LOT of virus in my area and I’m worried about sitting in a dental chair with people close to my face for the amount of time it takes to clean and check teeth. I’d like to be wearing a face mask and shield myself but obviously that can’t be done and still allow access to my mouth.
How safe is it in the dental chair these days? Is there anything a patient can do to protect themselves? Or is it all up to the dental staff? Is it too much to ask that the entire dental staff be wearing SCUBA gear, or that they move the chair to the open air of the parking lot???!!!
You don’t need to post this reply here – just read it and share it with your husband and see if you can come up with some guidance to give us nervous patients with overdue appointments. Signed, Trembling and Tartar-y
Ellie
Hi there! So sorry it took me a few days to respond. I talked to Mr. Handsome, and rather than add the post idea to my list and risk it being a few weeks before it gets written, I thought I would just share what he said on here. His office is following the extensive guidelines that the national dental organization has set forth, with the goal of protecting both patients and staff. That being said, I’m sure there are some offices that are cutting corners and not taking it seriously. You could definitely talk to the office manager at your office and ask them to explain the precautions they are taking. At this point, they should still be screening patients with temperature checks, doing extensive sanitizing, wearing N-95 masks, having patients wait in their cars instead of in the waiting room, and having patients enter and exit through different doors. (Those were the things Mr. H could think of off the top of his head.)
Mr. Handsome said that if you are feeling apprehensive about it, you can always wait an extra month or two. If you are just going in for a routine cleaning and you take very good care of your teeth (brushing 2x per day and flossing once), and if you haven’t had a ton of cavities, etc in the past, then waiting a little longer shouldn’t be a huge problem.
I hope this helps!
Ellie
