My husband truly is the man of 1,000 hobbies. He is driven, likes to be productive, loves a challenge, and doesn’t enjoy sitting around “doing nothing.” (Thankfully, he still happily takes beach vacations because, even though we often “do nothing,” we still technically accomplish something–fun family togetherness.)
With all the COVID and flu germs floating around, we have been quarantining since a couple weeks before our baby was born. I have really missed socializing with friends, but I am also enjoying being at home and relaxing. And I haven’t felt the least bit guilty about not accomplishing much.
Mr. Handsome, on the other hand, has fought to stay busy. Even though he is working plenty hard at the office (while taking precautions to minimize germ exposure), he still feels the drive to accomplish things while at home. This has actually been wonderful because he and Little Buddy have cleaned our garage and done tons of yard work. Mr. H also made a beautiful handcrafted gift for his brother and sister-in-law, which I will post about soon. And he sold a painting.
With all of those tasks completed, Mr. Handsome was again left with nothing to do, so last week, out of a desire to be productive and make memories with our son, he picked up yet another hobby. Can you guess what it is? The picture above is a hint.

You slaughtered one of your hogs and are rendering the fat.
You tapped your maple trees and are boiling the sap down to syrup.
You’re reenacting the scene from “Gone With the Wind” when the soldiers come home and their clothes need to be boiled.

Soap making?

Soap is so readily available that I don’t see why you’d need to make it at home. I can get castile soap at my grocery store. I can get artisan soap at every craft site or show. It’s like the candle making fad of years ago. Everyone is doing it or has done it and has moved on.

Maple Syrup? 🥰

Dutch oven cooking?
Lydia
I’m guessing maple syrup. Making soap doesn’t require a fire, and I’m pretty sure you live near the city and don’t have animals.

By the way, for your Christmas Eve pizza do you use the crust that you have given the recipe for? Is there anyway you can give us the pizza sauce that you make from scratch, or is that a family secret?
Ellie
Mr. Handsome hasn’t been given the secret recipe, so we had to come up with something on the fly for our pizza. He is going to ask his mom is he can have it. 🙂

I have looked at the pic a few times and just do not have an idea what Mr H is up to! But I know it will be interesting! Congrats to him on the sold pic. A man of many talents. Eileen

I could not be their neighbor. I’m horribly allergic to wood smoke. I can barely breathe when people around here make fires in their fireplaces in the winter, and the outdoor fire pit is the WORST thing ever invented! No matter how many draft stoppers and towels I put at doors and windows, wood smoke always creeps into my house. It’s not responsible to burn wood like that and who knows how many neighbors have allergies or COPD and are suffering because of the smoke.

My guess is making maple syrup! I’m just shocked that you can do that in January. Here in Michigan it’s usually March before the sap flows.

Guess we’ll never know…

Wow, looking at this picture made me very uncomfortable. That’s a very unstable structure. Good idea with toddlers around. And that includes mr handsome.

Just like you made a mess of a comment, polluted the comment section, and made everyone else unhappy with your unkindness.

Hi Ellie!
So what is this new hobby in the backyard?
Ellie
To be revealed soon 🙂
