At the beginning of the summer, I decided it was time to replace Little Buddy’s baby spoons and forks with utensils more appropriate for older toddlers. He does well at feeding himself independently but is still a long way from being able to maneuver adult-sized cutlery.
I began scouring the internet for quality children’s utensils. Plastic was out of the question because the few that we do have haven’t lasted well. I came across a company called Kiddobloom and was immediately impressed by their bio, which expresses their gratefulness for their children and their desire to create quality kids’ products that last.
I ordered a set of metal cutlery, and Little Buddy has loved them from the start. The forks and spoons are the perfect size for his little fingers, and I look forward to letting him use the blunt knives when he is a bit older. He is two-and-a-half, and the size of these utensils will make them appropriate for another few years.
With all the meals and snacks that toddlers require, we use our Kiddobloom utensils at least six or seven times a day. They have held up perfectly. I love that they so closely resemble our other cutlery, so that Little Buddy feels like a big boy when he eats alongside us.
Kiddobloom sells two sets of utensils, one for babies and young toddlers that is 4.7 inches long and one for older toddlers and children that is 5.75-6.25 inches long. I bought the larger size. The company also makes metal dinnerware sets, which include a bowl, cup, and divided plate.
If you have children, at what age did they start feeling themselves independently? At what age did they start using adult utensils?
This is a sponsored post, but we have a strict policy of only posting items that we actually use. We spent money on Kiddobloom utensils long before receiving a sponsorship, and we genuinely love this brand.

I like stainless silverware for babies and little kids because it does better in the dishwasher than plastic. We started baby led weaning at about 6 months, but both of my children didn’t take to table food until closer to a year. Now my three year old loves to use the big spoons when she eats. Not serving spoons, I guess, but the larger of the two that come with regular sets of silverware. It’s pretty funny but she manages–it seems to take a lot of concentration.

That’s impressive! I always enjoy watching little kids eat. It really does take a lot of concentration for them, but it’s very sweet.

This sounds familiar. My 90 year old mother likes the same size spoon…maybe it is is easier for her to grip.

I used the silver set dated 1898 that was in the family. Did not dishwasher it. Fourth generation to use it and it’s still going strong.

That’s wonderful. So great that you’re still making use of it. Good quality family heirlooms are the best.

Around age 3 we switched to teaspoons and dessert forks with my son as we didn’t have an in between option as great as this looks
Ellie
I was definitely glad to find this option!

Here is a little story that some Moms may be able to relate to. When our kids got too big for the very small heirloom forks and spoons we had, they went to dessert forks and spoons as intermediate sets. When I was home alone with the kids and had made something like soup for lunch, I would finish way ahead of them. I didn’t like that as we have a value to eat together, stay at the table together, talk and share. So I reduced my tableware to match theirs using a dessert spoon and fork as well to slow myself down and match the children! Lol It worked really well and made for more relaxing meals where I didn’t feel the need to get up, abandon the mealtime and get started on the next chore! Those were the best meals, chats, sharing we had. The kids also relaxed because I was more relaxed and engaged with them. It taught me some valuable parent lessons. However, when our youngest was 10, my husband suggested to met that I could probably move on to using regular sized tableware! I had adjusted to using dessert sizes and had continued that when I ate something with a spoon. Lol😂

That’s such a clever idea, Eileen! On a similar note, I think I need to start using Little Buddy’s toddler spoons and forks for dessert, to force myself to eat slower and enjoy (and maybe eat less too, LOL).

Yes, and for me, that dessert better be served on a kid’s china tea play set plate or maybe even in an egg cup for portion control size! Lol

Oneida has toddler (fork , spoon) & jr (3 pc) sets that we used for years. Ebay & Tuesday Morning are places I’ve found them.
