Little Buddy is officially one year old! It’s incredible to look back at pictures from a year ago and think about how much he has changed. Just before Christmas, he took his first unassisted step, and he proceeded to pick up walking very quickly. He now toddles around with ease, falling only when he tries to perform crazy stunts, like drinking from his bottle while on the move.
He enjoys finding little tasks to do around the house. His favorites include removing all the shoes from the shoe rack and pulling every article out of the laundry basket, one by one, while sitting in the basket. His favorite sound is ba-ba, and he will say ma-ma, too. Da-da it’s harder for him, but we’re working on it.
Wake-up time is around 6:00am, although on rare occasion he will sleep until closer to 7. When that happens, it feels like I’m on vacation!
He’s very much a people person, and while he will play on his own a little bit, he prefers to be on my hip doing everything I do. He’s not a cuddle bug, though. Even when he was sick with the stomach flu, he didn’t really want to sit still. He likes to be held, and then he will rock his body back-and-forth, which means that he wants you to walk around and show him interesting things.
We didn’t go all out for Little Buddy’s first birthday party (I guess you can call me a lazy mom), but I did make him a sugar-free cupcake, sweetened with applesauce and banana, with applesauce frosting. He loved it!

Would you mind sharing the cupcake and frosting recipes you used, Ellie? It sounds delicious (and like a much healthier alternative).
Ellie
I think I kept the recipe. I’ll check. 🙂

Happy birthday little buddy. Have a blessed year with many blessings.
Rebecca
Hi , we’d love to see a picture of your little guy?
Ellie
Hi Rebecca,
For my son’s privacy and out of respect to him, we have decided to keep the photos posted online to a minimum. I don’t even do social media for friends/family. I prefer to send them photos directly.
Hope you have a wonderful day!
Ellie

Ellie, Your decisions on privacy are very understandable, especially since you and your husband have this blog. You show respect for him because you guys can choose which pictures to share, but your son isn’t old enough to approve or disapprove. And good for you to send them personally, as opposed to social media. As a grandma, I love the photos sent directly to me. It makes me feel special, not just seeing them on Facebook, etc., like everyone else.

You should at least update your header picture.

A few days late but happy belated Birthday to Little Buddy! 😊💞
I don’t do social media either and both sides of the family get old fashioned photos as well! Just as well, I didn’t decorate or do a theme for my firstborn son’s first bday either- it’s not like they’ll remember 🤣 it’s not being lazy, it just isn’t necessary lol. For his second bday though we did a very simple truck digger theme however 😬
Ellie
Thank you, Jennifer! A truck theme for the 2nd birthday would be adorable.

you are not a lazy mom!! lets face it, one year olds have no idea what’s going on and are usually not even into ‘smash cakes’ or foods of that nature. the parties are for the adults to get together. the only birthday parties we had was when we turned 7 (an age mom thought we would understand and appreciate it at) and she did the same for my kids at age 7 each too
when my older son was turning 1, i wanted to make him an applesauce cake i had recently had at a get-together. here i am in the checkout with my recipe in hand double checking i got all the ingredients with the rest of my groceries and this woman in front of me comments on my son (being held by daddy of course lol) and sees the recipe and asks about it. so i tell her its for his birthday cake and she proceeded to insult me for attempting to make a cake from scratch for something as important as his first birthday on my first try! like ‘hope no one else has to eat it’ i was in shock but my husband assured her i was more than capable and she could mind her own business but i got to admit, i never made that cake. that woman got into my head and i really thought i couldnt do it and that i would ruin the ‘first birthday’ and that would have been worse than having to buy a cake. in the end, i bought a small carrot cake for the 5 of us, mom, dad, my husband, baby and i, and it was just fine. no fuss no muss
Ellie
Oh wow! That must have made you feel terrible. 🙁

The woman who said that to you was rude! I think it is even more meaningful that you wanted to bake your son’s birthday cake. My kids are in their thirties, and I have always baked their birthday cakes (still do).

Happy 1st bday to your son !
Sorry I am late . The cupcakes sound good. My oldest we made a healthy banana cake with blue icing . My youngest son we got a free small cake for his first bday from Lowe’s foods . And my little girl , for her first bday I made a healthy banana cake with unsweet whipped icing made with whipping cream . She loved it and had no idea it didn’t have sugar in it. Now my older kids tried it and didn’t like the icing since they do eat sugar . But you can always sweeten it with honey or maple syrup for a natural sweeten for olden ones.
I didn’t give my youngest sugar till she turned 1 year old.
Enjoy the toddler years , it just goes by so fast . I really enjoyed watching all three of my kids learn to talk more , learn new things , and just watching them grow . Just this month , my oldest son reminded me that my youngest will be turning 4 this year . I responded back to him saying she just turned 3 years old 2 months ago . But it’s a good reminder that she will be 4 pretty soon .
