When out-of-state friends come to visit and ask us to take them to the best BBQ joint in town, they are always shocked when we tell them that there are over a dozen to choose from, and most have multiple locations throughout the city and surrounding towns.
While Mr. Handsome and I enjoy going out for BBQ, we also enjoy staying in for BBQ. A couple years ago, I began perfecting the art of cooking BBQ beef brisket and BBQ ribs. But what’s a good BBQ meat recipe without a good BBQ sauce recipe? Useless, that’s what it is.
I alternate between two BBQ sauce recipes. Here’s one of them:
1-1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup water
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
Add all ingredients to a saucepan, and stir to combine. Bring to a gentle boil on medium heat, stirring constantly. Sauce can be simmered until ready to use. Store cooled leftovers in the fridge. (I use a glass Trader Joe’s olive oil container to store mine.)
Oooh, this has got me thinking summer weather, bbqs, family, love and laughter. Nice dreams on a wintery January Alberta afternoon. 🙂 Eileen
I am going to save this recipe. Sounds great!
Looks great!! We do a ribfest every year with our friends and maybe i'll give this one a go.
I don't use bbq sauce on my ribs. I use sugar free ketchup. And it works great
Do you know anyone that has a recipe for a good White Bar-b-que
Sauce? I remember my grandpa used to make it on special occasions and he died before I was old enough to care. Isn't that always the way of things! Sad.I can almost taste it right now. My mouth is watering and I don't have a clue what is in it. I live in Middle Georgia and we usually like the vinegar based sauces. I'm fairly sure that it's got a vinegar based.I would be so grateful for any help you can give me. Bless You All!
I haven't tried white BBQ sauce, but I did a search online and found a recipe: http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/white-barbecue-sauce-3
That sounds like a lovely memory you have of your grandpa!
Have a blessed day,
In the above comment, I meant to type that, he died before I cared about getting a recipe. Oops!
I was only 12 years old.
I have been learning to use my smartphone and the internet. I spent all of my time caring for my bedridden Mom and it was not on my priority list. But, since she passed, I'm working on it. Your blog was the first one I found and commented on. You have been a blessing and it is helping me through my grief. My greatest memories are the ones that include my loved ones and they usually include food . It makes me realize how important time together can be. It hurts me deeply when people comment about HAVING to help a family member. It makes me think about how much I would give, to have one more moment with my Mom.She was so special and loving to everyone. She was an earth bound Angel that hadn't gotten her wings. But, I'm sure her wings are amazing now. If only I could be one hundredth of the person that she showed me to be. I would be so happy. Sorry this is so long. It is just impossible to tell about her in a few words. Bless You and thanks for finding the recipes for me. Grandpa would be thrilled (and hungry!) Me too!
