Christmas at Opryland Hotel

December 15, 2016 by 9 Comments

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Last year, we started the tradition of having a date night at the iconic Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center to admire the magnificent holiday lights and decorations.

We didn’t spend the night (way too expensive, and Mr. Handsome had to work the next day), but we joined the hundreds of tourists who visit the hotel daily to admire its unique beauty. Living in Nashville definitely has its perks, like having this wonderful attraction so close to home.

During this visit, we came across something incredible that we hadn’t ever noticed, which is surprising because we have been to Opryland at least a dozen times. It was an indoor, man-made geyser (called the Delta Fountain).

Red and green lights and Christmas carols playing in the background made this fountain an incredible sight to see. The water shot up at least forty feet. Quite remarkable! Apparently the fountain performs nightly shows, and we just happened to catch one of them.

When I was a kid, there was a traveling fountain show called "Dancing Waters." It was a set-up of fountains, colored lights, and music. They traveled around via trucks and put on shows in parking lots. If you were lucky, it would come to your area and you could see the show for free. That's what that fountain reminds me of. But this was WAY before computers controlled things! It was back when things like that coming to town really were something to see. Yes, we were easily amused in the 1950's and 60's. LOL

I'll be in Nashville in April for a conference – have you done a post about all of your favorite restaurants or must-see places? I'm not sure how much free time I'll have, but have been googling like mad to start my lists! ๐Ÿ™‚

I haven't done a post like that, but I've given tips to friends who have come to visit. I'll plan to write up a post in early January. ๐Ÿ™‚

Beautiful! We have the Gaylord Texan here in the Dallas area. At Christmas they have the ICE exhibit with many ice sculptures and ice slides indoors.
    Thanks for sharing.
