Mr. Handsome’s Cardinal

May 16, 2017 by 44 Comments

Over the past couple years, I have shared many pictures of Mr. Handsome’s oil paintings. Our house is now filled with them, some rooms displaying as many as four or five, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Being surrounded by his artwork always puts a smile on my face.

We are slowly turning his hobby into a business, and he has already sold several paintings to folks in our area. The cardinal pictured above is only $40 plus $7.99 shipping. The canvas is 8 inches x 10 inches, and you can either hang it on a wall or display it on a shelf. Mr. Handsome paints the edges of his paintings, so they look great even without frames.

Update: The painting has been sold, but if you are interested in a similar painting (or another type of bird) send us an email at NashvilleWife@gmail.com, and Mr. Handsome would be happy to make one for you.

Here is a short video of my husband showing off his work of art:

A Train Station, a Street Car, and a Bony Cow

January 23, 2017 by 16 Comments

As many of you know, Mr. Handsome is a hobbyist painter. He took classes as a child but “put down his brush” for almost 20 years. Last year for Christmas, his coworkers bought him a starter oil painting kit (with guidance from me), and he started watching Bob Ross tutorials.Thirteen months later, he has created a couple dozen works of art. Painting has been a great stress reliever, and he has enjoyed branching out into different styles.

A few months ago, Mr. Handsome did a painting for my brother and sister-in-law as a wedding present, which I shared with you. For his brother and sister-in-law’s wedding, Mr. Handsome painted the old train station in the town where his sister-in-law grew up.

Inspired by our trip to New Orleans and our ride on a historic street car, Mr. Handsome created this work of art:

Out of all the paintings Mr. Handsome has done, my favorite is the bird he painted for my birthday last year, and my second favorite is this farm scene. He says the cow looks too bony, but I think it’s cute. He rolled his eyes when I gave it a prominent spot in our kitchen.

A Very Special Wedding Gift

November 12, 2016 by 31 Comments

I posted pictures from the adventure-themed wedding shower we threw for my brother and his fiance, as well as snapshots from their Oregon coast wedding, but did I show you the wedding present we gave them? It’s a painting by Mr. Handsome, and it shows a view of the ocean from a place called Road’s End, which is near the wedding venue. He also added a wedding chapel in the foreground. What do you think?

I’ve been away from the computer quite a bit this week and might not be able to moderate comments immediately, but don’t let that stop you from submitting them. I love to hear from y’all, and I’ll get to the comments ASAP. 🙂

Paintings and Rattlesnakes…

August 1, 2016 by 52 Comments

Before I continue with my post, let me just say that we had a frightening experience this weekend. While hiking with my brother-in-law in a beautiful forest near Nashville, Tennessee, we encountered a rattlesnake! We came within one stride of the four-foot creature before we realized what was happening. It began rattling, and we quickly retreated.Unfortunately, we had to pass the rattlesnake in order to return to our car, and although we waited several minutes, he didn’t seem to want to leave. My brave Mr. Handsome grabbed my hand and calmly led me through some brush on the other side of the path. Due to the rough terrain, we still had to come within about five feet of the snake. Thankfully, it didn’t strike, and we able to return to our car safely. Does anyone have any advice on what to do if you meet a rattlesnake?

Now, onto the post…

Mr. Handsome has been painting again. It’s been about five months since I have shown you his latest masterpieces, so I figured it was about time for an update.

This one is my absolute favorite. He completed it in March and hid it under the guest bed until our anniversary in June. It was all I could do to keep from peeking! The painting is a reproduction of one of our ocean engagement pictures. (We were engaged in Florida.)

Here are a few random landscapes that he has painted so far this summer…

Now before you start wondering why the next one is significantly lower quality than the others, let me tell you that it’s not Mr. Handsome’s. It’s mine. I’ll admit I haven’t painted a picture since elementary school, but I know it’s definitely not nearly as good as my husband’s paintings. Hopefully it’s a decent start, though.

3 Peaceful Landscapes and a Stormy Sea

March 9, 2016 by 40 Comments

A few readers have asked how Mr. Handsome’s painting career is going, so I’ll give y’all an update.Remember back in December and January, when I posted pictures of his first three paintings? He has continued to create two or three paintings every month.

During the cold winter months when there hasn’t been much to do outside on the weekends, painting has been a great hobby for my husband and a creative way for him to de-stress. Our living room and kitchen are attached, so I usually sit at the kitchen table and work on the computer while he paints.

Here are his four latest masterpieces. What do you think? (Click here to see his first painting.)

The next step is to find a way to hang these beautiful works of art in our home. We have friends who have a wood shop and have offered to let Mr. Handsome use their machines to create frames. (We always look forward to our weekly Bible study with them and a few other individuals and young couples.)

My Hubby the Painter

January 25, 2016 by 48 Comments

As I mentioned in my last post, every single one of his dental patients canceled their appointments on Friday and Saturday because of snow. Most of the roads weren’t plowed, so aside from church on Sunday and a few walks through our neighborhood, we relaxed at home all weekend. It was glorious. And now we have two beautiful new paintings, courtesy of Mr. Handsome. (Click here to see a picture of his first painting from back in December.) My husband is becoming quite the artist. Seeing his face light up when he finishes a painting makes me so happy! Not only does his new hobby act as a stress reliever, but it also gives us meaningful decor to hang in our home.

What do you think?

Just Like Bob Ross

December 20, 2015 by 24 Comments

Yesterday was Mr. Handsome’s first day off (aside from Sundays) in three weeks, and he woke up at 7am! He had received a box of oil paint supplies as an early Christmas present from the staff at his dental practice and wanted to put it to use.My husband painted several pictures as a child, and he mentioned over the summer that he would enjoy picking that hobby back up. So when the office manager asked me for gift ideas, I spent a few hours researching painting supplies and then sent her Amazon links for the Bob Ross Painting Rural America kit and an easel.

(The office manager gave me the credit for doing all the grunt work to make the gift possible, so I ended up inadvertently scoring some wifey points!)

What do you think of Mr. Handsome’s first painting?
